Mapping Magic

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to map different layers of data points, and that you can adjust colour and shape of points to make it easy to distinguish. The base layer maps are also really helpful and add a lot of meaningful information to the maps I build.
What do you dislike about the product?
Over the platform requires a degree of skill and problem solving to figure out how to work it, but it is a very diverse mapping tool so that is understandable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I map a lot of GPS points to track project locations and determine distances between sites. It is a really quick way to visualize hundreds of sites and it is easy to upload mass files of site information which saves a lot of time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend Esri ArcGIS from both simple location mapping tasks as well as more complex data mapping projects. It is a very diverse tool that I have not seen anywhere else.

What do you dislike about the product?
Its endless features make it extremely hard for an inexperienced user to find exactly what they want to do. The ArcGIS Pro is incredibly expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is an incredibl ypoerful GIS program that can be used by engineers, statisticians and scientists. In fact, it can be used in almost any industry.

The technical barrier is high to use it. Also, the interface of the ArcGIS map is pretty outdated. Sometimes, it takes a long time to solve a simple issue. The FAQ section needs to be easier to use.

Mapping data. We're using ArcGIS for the majority of our mapping projects. Those include static maps for reports, our website, and also for our users.

What do you like best about the product?
-industry standard gis software
-incredible power and analysis capabilities
-software is used worldwide
-has very diverse applications far beyond what one would consider
-quantification of qualitative data
What do you dislike about the product?
-a bit clunky at times
-needs to streamline user interface so that people don't need to spend so much time troubleshooting little problems
-needs to make more datasets publicly available
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The benefits of gis are endless. I've mentioned quite a few already, but everyone from college students to industry professionals are using esri arcgis. Because it's such a big name, having employees who are familiar with the program's use is a huge asset to pretty much any organization, especially governmental, consulting, research, and similar.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider using its younger brother, escri arcgis online! It's a much more streamlined user interface.
