Most versatile backup product on the market today
What do you like best about the product?
I guess if I had to pick one thing it would be the ease of use. Veeam's software product has come a long way in a short time. Every version they release gets easier and easier to use which makes administration tasks simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't know if there's anything specifically that I dislike. When it comes to IT products, they often can't predict every environment. I guess maybe they can work on reading minds.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
VM backup of hosts, clusters, and s2d clusters, along with vSphere. Seems to do everything really well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Set up a test environment and go through their trial. Ask LOTS of questions and make sure to utilize their support. Everything from start to finish is top notch in my opinion. Their KB is good, but their support is MUCH better. They're responsive, consistent, and helpful all the way around!
VEEAM Software in ESX Environment
What do you like best about the product?
Fast, efficient. Easy to use interface. Works very well in our ESX 6.x environment. Single pane of glass management of all our hosts and VM's. It was setup by a virtualization integrator so we are simply managing what was already setup.
What do you dislike about the product?
When we were looking at getting more experience and training, the systems engineer assigned to us was covering such a large territory that we had significant difficulty getting post-sales support. We had to rely on the main telephone number for any help. I would like to see tighter integration with ESX management console.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Snap shot recovery for failback, rollups. We'd like to take more advantage of the software to do remote disaster recovery and business continuity cases. We've been able to recover from bad software updates and OS corruptions so it's saved us a lot of time rebuilding VM's or critical server roles.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Lot's of choices out there. Many bundled with the storage vendor. Leverage that.
Great backup solution for Virtualized Environments
What do you like best about the product?
Setup and management is easy. Had backups running in a few hours, Fewer issues with native VSS writers than with other products.
What do you dislike about the product?
Better support for non virtualized infrastructure. There is a free physical infrastructure agent, but its not supported the same as the regular products.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Simple, agentless (host based) backup of virtualized infrastructure.
Works as described
What do you like best about the product?
Simple install and use, plus it is free. Recommended highly
What do you dislike about the product?
Love the product and works as advertised
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Backup solutions for clients
Great for Data Center Backups
What do you like best about the product?
-Easy to install and configure
-Clear overview of backups
-Economical storage usage
-Clear overview of backups
-Economical storage usage
What do you dislike about the product?
Retention configuration is limited for direct backup jobs; to handle good retention a backup copy is required (which first needs a direct backup), thus requiring almost duplicate jobs in some cases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data Center DRP
Best Backup Software for VMs
What do you like best about the product?
The setup for the software is pretty straighforward, and once it is set up it pretty much just works. We've had very little difficulty getting anything to back up, and restores are a breeze as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The retention settings for backups are not completely intuitive, which makes long term recovery requirements a bit difficult to nail down and maintain
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are backing up our entire virtual architecture with this software and have found that recoveries and even the backups themselves are easier to maintain and execute.
Integration with VMWare works very well
What do you like best about the product?
I was able to hook it up with VMware and most of all there is a free version that allows you to use cmdlets for automation purposes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Licensing can be expensive but its totally worth it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
using the free version for back up and recovery of my virtual infrastructure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
start using the free version and if it meets ur needs, proceed with full ver.
Great Backup System
What do you like best about the product?
The best thing of Veeam is that it can manage all Virtual infrastructure specially VMware.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only thing is that it will use more encryption tools to encrypt the data before backing it up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Enterprise backups
Solid backup platform for virtual workloads
What do you like best about the product?
Veeam has been a stable and useful platform for the small and mid-size company. It provides quality backups with good metrics to support data mining around your data protection.
What do you dislike about the product?
No physical backup capability at this point in time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a lower cost more stable platform from what we were using previously. The reduction of cost has helped to increase margins and the stability has made it so that we can provide better service internally.
Simplified Restoring and Backups
What do you like best about the product?
Extremely easy to load a vm snapshot to single item, multiple item or complete restore of multiple systems from files to exchange and sql. The management interface is simple to use, backups can be configured to speed up the throughput on the larger systems. Application awareness for truncating log files.
What do you dislike about the product?
Issues with taking backup of exchange with databases mounted, this has caused the backups to cause the databases to failover and at times stop the VSS that you have to restart the services.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Backing up 100's of virtualized servers daily and allowing a months worth of vm restore points without having to go to the tape archive to locate. With being supplied the correct information it is quick to mount a restore point and dive directly to where we need to restore a single/multiple items, we can restore directly back to the original location or save it in an alternate spot. With exchange you can mount some ones complete mailbox and dive granular, and for sharepoint it will load you the site collection in Explorer view to easily locate and recover. If have even used to recover from crypto-virus that infected our file servers with minimal downtime and loss of information.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It does a great job for small and large virtualized organization. Your IT Staff will love the simplicity and short time to restore.
