A+ Software, A Must When Security Is Paramount But Users Need Access!
What do you like best about the product?
In Kubernetes, it makes switching between contexts, providing access (both role-based and temporary), and configuring your local kube config so seamless and so easy, it is actually painless. We handle dozens of environments and hundreds of datasources, and by leveraging their sdm CLI util, macbook app, and SDK, we are able to provision and maintain it all, with little-to-no issues. We use it multiple times a day and our dev teams use it multiple times an hour. Great customer service with timely, insightful responses. It was fairly easy to integrate into our existing infra.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would not say 'dislike' persay, but there is functionality we are waiting to see included in the sdm CLI to make managing some of the admin resources a bit easier. There is also an odd bug involving incorrect ports/local ports *sticking* to some datasources in the SDM macbook client app. Easy enough to workaround, though. It is a rare occurence.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Maintaining and provisioning hundreds of users and thousands of datasources in an organized, secure, and easy-to-use manner.
Powerful, excellent, does one thing extremely well.
What do you like best about the product?
Gives me secure access fast, when I need it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The menu bar UI is a *little* weird and non-traditional.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Accessing production servers safely.
StrongDM, smooth and safe access
What do you like best about the product?
It works seamlessly just install and forget.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not found any issues yet. There is nothing to dislike
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
manages and audits access to databases, servers, clusters, and web apps
StrongDM - One of the best Access platforms out there
What do you like best about the product?
StrongDM provides a complete platform for managing access to infrastructure of all types. More traditional IT as well as modern cloud platforms such as AWS and Kubernetes. It integrates with identity systems and supports SCIM so you can continue to manage access controls in your existing IdP platforms.
Their customer support is very responsive even off hours.

What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few limitations in the UI for viewing access assignments from a user to a specific resource. Roles are used to assign resources to users but when you view a user, you can't see the resources they have, only the roles. It requires some CLI work to get the end to end picture. For this reason it's important to avoid using a lot of different roles.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We cannot give users passwords to systems and must maintain separation of duties. This product allows us to give our developers access to databses without managing individual credentials on every databsae. We have over 50 databsaes and hundreds of users. We aren't a huge company with a dedicated team to manage access requests. This product lets us easily manage access.
The other huge benefit is auditing. We are audited annually and this product gives us an audit trail of who accessed what resource and in some cases, what they executed against a particular resource (e.g. SQL, Shell commands)
Lastly, we have a lot of non-technical people who have to access databases to run queries. The Windows client is very simply to use for our non-technical people. No CLI required, just view list of resources and "connect" as needed.

Locks down data and app access for security
What do you like best about the product?
It is fairly easy to use. I like that it stays in the top toolbar of my machine so that a full app doesn't have to be open and running. It has the ability to group various services and sort by the ones you want visible.
What do you dislike about the product?
There was usually a lag of 2-3 minuted between database approval and being able to select/ enable the database in SDM. Their recent redesign threw me for a loop as it almost looked like a different app/ UX. It also seems a bit cumbersome to have to do a web-based login through Okta, but that's likely a SSO limitation on Mac, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
database security and access
Flexible and easy to deployment product. Easy to use and deployment easy to understand the platform.
What do you like best about the product?
Easy deployment. Flexible platform compatible with multiple platforms such as cloud, Infrastructure Network Website, and Servers. StrongDM deployment is far easier compared to the competitor in the market.
What do you dislike about the product?
There some a lot of limitations on the platform, but the easy deployment made it good for DAM & PAM platform. StrongDM will be better if they have some audit user type and role based access control.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Control the user and auditing what they using the resource and our assets.
Feature velocity is picking up!
What do you like best about the product?
- core feature set works flawlessly
- support team is responsive, and knowledgable, providing complete answers and potential workarounds.
- the slack integration has sped up our team
- The CX team is engaged and listens to feature requests
Overall, I'm really excited about what SDM will look like in 2025

What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of deep integration with GCP console and other resources
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
JIT access to resources. Session recording. Audit logs.
Straightforward & easy to deploy.
What do you like best about the product?
Purchasing StrongDM is as easy as implementing it. Transparent pricing and ease of purchase makes this more appealing than all other "enterprise" PAM out there. -- It does access control and logging while allowing our developers to use their own favorite tools. Something that can't be said for all other PAMs we have explored.
We requested a minor feature to make StrongDM work in our envrionment. We waited about a month or so to get this feature shipped!

What do you dislike about the product?
A more granular permission system & connectivity configuration would be nice. Low-level error messages should be sent to StrongDM instead of forcing sysadmins to SSH into relays. Advanced log (e.g. ship logs to S3) costs extra. Additional scripting is required to get everything archived in S3.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need PAM. We need IAM. But our developers need privileged access using their own favorite tool. Yes, we are more productive and are more secure thanks to StrongDM
