Easy to setup, intuitive UI and very helpful support
What do you like best about the product?
When working with Atlan, I really liked how easy it was to set up, integrating seamlessly with our modern data stack. Their support has been great - it was very easy to get in contact with relevant people and they even helped us set us to shape our thinking around governance.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a great product, but I'd like to see more functionality to help us prioritise our governance efforts - e.g. getting a better handle of search queries that are conducted within Atlan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- We are a financial institution, and compliance is essential for us. Atlan helps us to significantly reduce the effort needed to comply with GDPR and localisation laws
- Atlan makes it significantly easier for us to understand the lineage of dbt-tables into looker. This helps us to optimise costs as well as identify potential impact before making changes to data architecture.
- Atlan made it significantly easier for users to identify what data means in our organisation. For us, this has been especially relevant for event data sets.

Finally be able to answer the question "Where does this data go?"
What do you like best about the product?
Atlan has unlocked visibility in to data previously unavailable to us. Through the lineage feature and plentiful integrations, we can more easily answer questions about where each dataset goes and what it's used for. Combined with the world class support that the Atlan team provides, Atlan enables us to have a better handle on the breadth of data that we have internally.
What do you dislike about the product?
As an early customer of Atlan, there were some growing pains with features that weren't fully baked yet or didn't have the bugs hammered out. As the company and product expands, I'd like to see more fully-fledged documentation that describes the full picture of the features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously, we had difficulty understand what data gets used where and Atlan's lineage and documentation features help analytics users understand what feeds each dataset. Before, it was a complex web of finding what report used this table, which stored procedure loads it, and when the table was last updated. Atlan's integration with dbt and Tableau means that we can spend significantly less time investigating and more time developing. Additionally, data scientists have a central repository they can use to understand what data exists in our ecosystem which reduces that number one painpoint in data science-- getting the data!
Using Atlan as a tool for our data governance program has been easy and positive.
What do you like best about the product?
We like the google chrome extention, playbooks, and the trident suggestions.

We have not identified anything at this time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Atlan has assisted in helping to build a solid bedrock for defining assets, validating the source, accuracy and integrity of those assets. The analysis we are in the process of has allowed us to identify and correct errors in reports actively used by the business.
Product has been great for beginning our data governance journey
What do you like best about the product?
The first feature that pops up when using Atlan, compared to other options we tried, is the simple -yet effective- interface. At a simple glance, Atlan might seem like a simple product that doesn't have much to offer, but when you explore and use it, you realize it has many (if not all) of the features its competitors have, but they've worked hard to offer a clean and user-friendly interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far, the few items that were challenging for us, I shared them with the Atlan team and they're actively listening to improve their product.
For example, the lack of integration with Microsoft Teams, and some nice options available in other reporting tools (e.g. Looker) that aren't available for Power BI reports, like report preview.
However, Atlan has been open with us in sharing some roadmap items that might be added, including some of the ones I mentioned above.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Right now, documentation! Both technical and business documentation is lacking in our data & analytics environment. Atlan gives us that central place that our users can use as an entry point to our data products.
Second, ownership. Atlan provides our users with easy-to-identify owners for all our assets, which translates into saved time for our users and our data developers.

What do you like best about the product?
Atlan is constantly making sure how they would be able to generate value with our metadata. In other words, they listen to their users.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are improvements to perform on their insights section because UX is different when using Bigquery UI, and users wouldn't be used to the switch. But as the "Insights" section is an optional feature, it won't affect the primary purpose of Atlan. (Data Discovery, Data Lineage)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since Atlan arrived at our company, we have been able to have a unique source of truth regarding business definitions and data discovery.
Atlan Makes it Easy to Interact with Metadata
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to interact with our metadata. It's simple to upload information and easy to edit it as well. Generally we find that people have a simple time accessing the information they need. The search functionality is quite strong and I find the UI attractive. The Atlan team is extremely helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much that I can say. We've had a really positive experience working with the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously people didn't know where to access data and how to use data in context. They would ask questions in Slack channels taking away time from our engineers. Since launching Atlan we've reduced requests in our support slack channel by 50%, saving 1 full FTE of data engineering time.
Active metadata for active data practitioners
What do you like best about the product?
One of the best things about Atlan is they have not treated us like a customer, but as a partner from the very beginning. What I mean when I say that is, they have had check-ins with us and our team, proactively seeking feedback and ways they can make improvements to better help us accomplish what is important for our team. We have never had such a positive relationship with a customer success manager as we do with Atlan from any other software before. Another great thing is its ability to seamlessly integrate into software/tools that we are already using, like Google suite, Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Salesforce, Jira, Slack, and Tableau... And they're constantly working on making more connections to popular tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
There was definitely some confusion for us in the beginning with the language that Atlan uses to talk about governance - purposes, policies, personas... lots of alliteration there made it easy for us to confuse how they should each be used. But the support team is VERY responsive - I mean we have a response within 15 minutes - and they are eager to help and better the experience and the product overall.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a bit of a documentation and transparency problem with our data before Atlan. They have enabled us to build more credibility with colleagues because they are now more easily able to see where the data is coming from, how it's being defined, what queries are being used to capture certain metrics, how we're defining those metrics, and more! And, what's more, is that they're able to answer a lot of those questions on their own now!

Active Data Catalog for the Modern Data Stack
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to utilize Atlan's integration with Snowflake and Power BI provided us with rich data and metadata insights regarding our analytical data assets (tables and views) and Power BI reports and dashboards. Atlan also provides a truly visual data lineage showing the sources, transformations, and targets of different data assets. Another distinctive area where Atlan shines is the rich search interface which aids the discovery of business glossary terms and data assets.
The Atlan customer success is very responsive to our requests. Atlan's customer success team work in close collaboration with our internal team to remediate issues and provide us with information about new features and how to make the best use of them.

What do you dislike about the product?
Mapping business glossary terms to data assets was challenging at first. We had to work with the Atlan team to create a workaround custom solution to get this done. Atlan has recently released product updates to make this process much less arduous for our team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Atlan as an enabler of our data governance execution specifically around important capabilities such as a business glossary, data dictionary, data discovery, and data lineage. Pertinent to the broad adoption of these capabilities is the need for collaboration amongst teams. Team members can easily search and discover new data assets and collaborate on fixing incorrect definitions or introducing new terms.
