One of the most efficient Mobile device application development environments

  • October 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The Outsystems development environment it very easy to use for anyone with previous development experience as well as being a great place for those with little or no development experience to come up to speed quickly.
• Allows fast prototyping whilst keeping good consistency and a polished appearance
• Provides a good balance between continual deployment and traditional dev-qa-prod staging
• Enforces inter module dependency integrity
• Enabled good UI-Business-Data separation whilst still allowing for RAD
• Good merging and conflict detection when multiple devs are working within the same module
• Projects and applications are rock solid and stable once released
What do you dislike about the product?
• Priced at the high end and not cost effective for small scale development
• Shows some signs of instability in the publishing process with very large and complex projects
• On the PaaS version you are heavily restricted on access to the infrastructure and cannot get access to simple functions such as SQL replication or database maintenance options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Outsystems was chosen as a platform to rewrite a legacy product developed over 30 years and bring it into the cloud. It has been a really good choice for an organisation that had no web or cloud experience and has helped avoid many of the basic mistakes that could otherwise have been made. Whist there are some limitations on flexibility and price the benefits and speed to market far out way these.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don’t assume that because the development is easy that you will have an easy path into the app stores. You still need to comply with all the app store restrictions.

Focus on delivering business value instead of developing

  • October 09, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- prototyping to developing quickly, in the same tool
- focus on business requirements instead of technical stuff
- integrated DevOps tool : truly publish in one clic
- front-office and back-office in the same tool
- code once and publish to Android and iOS
What do you dislike about the product?
- do not under-estimate the learning curve for developers
- scarcity of Outsystems developers on the (Belgian) market
- sometimes, you have to follow the rules & constraints of the tool (but just minor issues so far)
- provider not keeping its promises for rapid delivery on first implementation
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Developed a brand new and innovative mobile app in just 5 months with 1 developer.
Building a core HR system for planning and time registration,

Great RAD platform, easy to integrate into your current IT landscape

  • October 09, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The platform is easy to implement into your current IT landscape, it's easy to learn, it enables change, adaptivity and reduces time to market dramatically
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing model with the AO's makes it difficult to estimate the licensing cost and that makes it hard to sell it to sr management
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we have really complex legacy systems in place and with Outsystems we are able to build modern applications that guide our users throughout the process
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start small and learn your lessons (because however small it is, there IS a learning curve<

Powerful development platform with only minor limitations

  • October 09, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The platform allows developers to focus on larger pieces of functionality and their output increases massively. The integrated Continuous Deployment functionality is very intuitive, clear and works as expected.
What do you dislike about the product?
In some aspects, the platform lacks customisability and when troubleshooting certain issues, it seems general support answers my questions three times before I am referred to a technical expert.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Development output, and as a result agility.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do it. OutSystems and low-code platforms are the way of the future. Do however first consider whether you have other systems that are absolutely necessary to interface with and how difficult/impossible that will be.

Making a new application for our employees. To help our clients more quickly.

Increased frontend development delivery speed

  • October 08, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to deliver quality software with very high speed is considered very valuable. With OUtsystems you can develop applications really fast. If you make mistakes or forget things, the platform is very flexible in letting you make the corrections and deploy the fix to production
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing staffle should be proviced in smaller staffles. Right now it is very tough to invest for smaller development applications, as you you buy ao packages per 400 objects. The product is to my opinion very interesting for smaller companies as well. Unfortunately with utsystem you have to invest quite a lot of money in the beginning of your yourney to be able to start. A model with a lower tresshold can help clients and outsystems both.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Delivering fast on high demand Business desires. The outside world is demanding rapid development and as a IT department we need to be able to answer this desire. unfortunaltely legacy systems are needed to change fuctionalities as well. Please take into account that your backend needs to be ready in order to get the maximum value out of this low code platform. A frequently heard remakt is that outsystems is implemented, but that the velocity of the change jorney is stil slow. This because the integration changes and backend changes take long and are inflexible to chnage. In these situations you pay for outsystems, but do not get the value out of the platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Outsystems speeds up our time to market on software delivery.

Good onboarding and initial support for a new Outsystems customer

  • October 08, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We are a new customer and were very happy with the onboarding process and initial support. Developing in Outsystems is proving very valuable for us. We are using Outsystems mostly for integration purposes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes you miss features and must hope that they will be implemented in a future version. This can sometimes be frustrating and can lead to the necessity of workarounds that er not alwyes the preferred solution
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly integration issues. We are not yet implementing any customer facing applications because we have specialized partners for that.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do a proper POC, There are other vendors with similar offerings. For us Outsystems was the best fit.
