Great Database Platform (For the Most Part)
What do you like best about the product?
DB2 is relatively simple to maintain and performs very well. It provides a wealth of enterprise class features (mirroring, replication, clustering, etc), and I've found the built in troubleshooting/monitoring tools to be quite handy. IBM support for the product has been excellent as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Worst ODBC drivers I've ever used - and that says something. There are countless variations and packages, each with 32-bit, 64-bit, and multilanguage flavors. It's easiest if you use the GUI-based tools to create the System DSN (using the Windows ODBC interface has never once worked properly for us), but the GUI tools install a small DB instance wherever they're installed. I don't want that on my servers just to get an ODBC connection set up. The lightweight drivers only provide poorly documented CLI tools and store passwords in cleartext ini files.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our DB2 cluster mirrors our mainframe databases to act as a data repository for all our business-critical applications. Our mainframe is unable to handle the load from external queries, so the DB2 cluster acts as the read/write for all integrations.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are free products that perform just as well and likely have better integration capabilities with 3rd party applications. However, DB2 was the right fit for us because it worked natively with our aging mainframe.

Excellent DBMS
What do you like best about the product?
Excellent database to handle high volume of data, recommended for datawarehouse.
What do you dislike about the product?
DB2 for Zos is focused on mainframe equipment, making it difficult for the installation of alternative infrastructure to the data center in the case of having a contingency center.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The partitioning of 21 alternative centers was resolved through the DB2, the management of roles and permissions for the accesses to the objects with the implementation of Rc / secure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Define the project very well if the DB2 database manager is required since it could be expensive to maintain the infrastructure depending on the installation and configuration.
DBA ADMNISTRATOR IN DB2
What do you like best about the product?
I have worked in DB2 technology since 1996. I have made a lot of effort to understand what it can offer the user, its automatic applications, and its security, its integrity and the backup and recovery of its data. It is a robust and fully tested technology. Very reliable for any volume of data. Preferably the transactional ones. Excellent administrator of relational tables and its standard SQL. I recommend it.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my personal experience, DB2 is very demanded by its utilities. Many commands and references of very nebulous errors. It requires a lot of computing power, it is still architecture for medium and large computing environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have worked to assist developers of large data analysis systems. Especially business intelligence solutions, designing datamarts and datawarehouse. And processing of statistical data of medium and great complexity. Very good relationship with third-party SAS software: mining and multivariate data analysis.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Yes. It is definitely excellent for handling transactional data and non-formal data, safe, reliable. recoverable, robust and updated to the demands of new trends in the modern development of applications and systems and for handling very large volumes of data.

It’s not flexible and also very limited tools are available running queries or accessing programmatically
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is for storing metadata of our content management software.
