Amazing database

What do you like best about the product?
What i always declare about IBM products is the robust gets after it gets install, is a pretty fast and lite . Easy to install ,, integrates with differents opertaint system and finally you can have a free version with all the features . The data management was really agile , is impresive how work equal for 10 record to 1000 records.
What do you dislike about the product?
not much about the dislikes but there are a few :
1.- If you want to buy the full version is really expensive
2.- For installing in diferentes Opertatin system other than windows is a pretty hard problem to solve
3.- In the internet is not a lot of information to solve every day issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
well in my case we were running an ibm aplication that only works on DB2 so more than solving an issue was see how it works and i can say is a pretty good tool to work with.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Is a really good database and has a lot of feature to work really nice , but you have to considerer 2 major aspects of it :
1.- If you want the free version you limited for some feature and max storage of 2g, instead of that the paid version is almost perfect but is super expensive.
2.- Beware for want system you are using it , in windows is pretty easy but linux is a pretty big headake
3.- also beware that is not a lot of information in the internet to help and only have the IBM data that sometime is not as acurate as should be.

Great Performance

  • January 26, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
I used DB2 as a backend at the firm I was working in. It was already set up and hence I was purely an end user developing webapps using db2 as their backend. One major requirement for all my apps was quick retrieval and modification of data. DB2 worked great for both. It has commendable performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
I may have faced some minor hiccups during the 2 years I worked with it but there's nothing I specifically remember hence I'm sure there's nothing to strongly dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it as a data storage hub for our webapps and performance is the majir benefit we have realized.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend DB2, especially if performance is a concern.

Perfect for Legacy code handling

  • January 26, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
I utilize Access databases frequently,
ignoring 'weird looks' given to me by IT professionals who consider anything
less than Oracle not a true database, but some sort of a 'toy'. However, DB2
fits the bill perfectly in some cases. Back in 1996, I had to resolve a problem
very quickly, by creating a 'tool' to keep track of problems encounters by
buyers from the procurement department in ordering certain parts, like parts
for old designs and currently unavailable due to obsolescence, or parts having
an unacceptable long lead time. The need was for a relatively simple and small
database, allowing recording of such problems, recording of the progress made
by the Component Engineering department in finding a solution and the recording
of the solution itself, when one was found. I selected IBM DB2 as a
platform, since it appeared relatively simple compared to more powerful
databases, and my proficiency in other members of the Office suite making the
learning curve shorter. And it worked very well. The implementation took only
three weeks and the results were very much appreciated by its users. I believe
this database it is still in use.
What do you dislike about the product?
It cannot accommodate as many records or as many concurrent users an Oracle or similar database can.
It is not as reliable as a database of 'industrial strength' is.
It does not work fast, particularly when when large amount of code was used for its design or when a relatively many users attempt to utilize it simultaneously.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IBM DB2 is very suitable whenever the objective of the project is a database where:
1. The timeframe of the project must be short and the start of the project must be immediate.
2. Specialised personnel from IT department is not available, due to their own prioritization scheme.
3. The designer tasked with the design, implementation and deployment of the database, is a technically-oriented person in general, but having no previous knowledge of Access in particular.
4. The size of the envisaged database is relatively small, both in the number of records to be stored in it, as well in the number of concurrent users.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make the DDL creation of Stored Procedures explicit.

DB2 databases usage

  • January 25, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Its easy to use and its straight forward to set up an environment with a DB2 database.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's fairly old technology and hasn't changed much in the last 10 years.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are storing a particular business area with db2. The company was acquired with it and we never migrated.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its okay to have but I would suggest to try other options as well.
