Extremely useful and effective way of getting real user's insights on a product

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The very quick turnaround on getting results - I can learn something about my product / designs / branding within a couple of hours from real people
What do you dislike about the product?
Very minor quibbles here and there - I wish it was more collaborative in terms of working with others in my team. It would be nice if multiple people could comment on tester videos and it say who in my team wrote those comments and we could upvote / downvote people's comments on eachother's tests.
I also wish there was a better way of extracting the data and answers from the tests - the format in the excel spreadsheets is not very useful as the tasks or questions are split from each other (e.g. row one: task 1; row two: question from task 1 and answers) so there is a space in between all of the useful data. I would also recommend making these portable to google spreadsheets as this is what my company uses and is far more collaborative than microsoft excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have solved various UX problems - understanding what is more intuitive for users. I have often found that I can have a certain perspective on a design on product and users around the world have a completely different perspective because they haven't been working on it. We did a quick brand and logo analysis and most users preferred logos that the team hadn't even considered as the top options moving forward.

A Great Tool for Gathering User Insights

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The biggest upside of UserTesting is their participant pool and filtering abilities. I can find current customers of our business, people who have never heard of our company, or even people who used to use the site but now don't in such little time! Creating tests are fairly effortless, though it takes time and practice to perfect the tests and gather the best insights possible. There are an unlimited number of tasks and questions you can provide to your testers in order to get whatever insight you need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the quality of the testers are not great. I have too often received testers for my tests that have obviously lied in the screener questions or their profiles. For example, I have gotten testers who are 21-years-old and have a 17-year-old child. Or I have had testers who, in the screener questions, said that they have used our website before, but during the test, they state that they have never used the website before. This is frustrating and often leads to wasted time on my end. I also wish that the template questions and tasks were more nuanced. For example, template rating scale questions should be of a "rating scale" type, not a generic "task" type.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to solve various questions that many different stakeholders in our company have, from the IT department to the Marketing teams to the Sales and Merchandising teams. These questions are being funneled to me, the UX researcher, who then uses UserTesting to see how members of the public react to our site.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Talk to their sales specialists and user researchers. They are all very knowledgeable and helpful people who can help you determine if UserTesting is right for you.

An awesome tool to learn from them about all sorts of things, not just usability

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The range of the users we can reach out to and the ability to learn about their values and beliefs, not just find out if we have put buttons in the right place.
Great video editing suite
What do you dislike about the product?
The way you organise files
Inability to delete or recall research published in error
The fact that only 1 5 second test can be run in any one round of research
The name of your product - it makes people assume they are looking for definitive answers to pass/fail tests. Research is about learning. The name of the tool affects the discourse around the tool and makes it harder to make product and designers think about learning not testing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reaching out to customers of competitors
Doing pre-discovery work to determine if there is value in escalating to face to face lab or home visits
Rapid prototyping
Recommendations to others considering the product:
none

Quick feedback and product iteration

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We are able to have truely agile product development with User Testing because of their quick filling and creation of tests. The templates are great places to start any sort of test, and we are able to iterate on our product ideas incredibly quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Restarting tests can sometimes be really cumbersome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving a lot of problems with trying to iterate quickly on prototypes to get to a solution quickly that has been validated. This kind of testing usually would take us weeks. We've now figured out how to run 3 4 or 5 rounds of feedback with people over just a couple of days and get to some of the bigger issues with our ideas before it ever even goes into development. It saves a huge amount of time for us.

What do you like best about the product?
Transcripts and data for individual tests
What do you dislike about the product?
Would like more various types of questions, like ranking items in terms of designs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Testing different types of designs. Understanding who our users are and what they're looking for, comparing our products to others across the competitive landscape.

A great way to do fast and accurate research - but subscriptions too costly for some companies

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
UserTesting is amazing at empowering you to conduct research.

The most flexible and extensive screening options of all of the tools out there.

Great transcriptions, notetaking and subscription functionality.

Have really stepped up their game with lots of new product features - e.g. new collaborator functionality is great. Also a new user role where there is an approval function.

Live conversations is an amazing add - now we can do moderated remote. Huge benefit.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have an unlimited subscription for 1 seat and its waaaayyyy too expensive (like 30k), given its really only one seat.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not only do we use it for lots of user testing on our website, but we've hacked it for tree testing, and card sorting, comms and ad testing, physical product testing, and more generative work.

We sell the most in a country we don't work in, so having the ability to do live conversations in that other country is amazing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Super flexible tool. Definitely worth (most) of the money, if you can swing the budget

    Non-Profit Organization Management

Such a time saver!

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Being able to write highlight reels by task saves so much time in usability synthesis! The metrics dashboard is also super helpful to see the ratings charts.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish I could combine the metrics and highlight reels for mobile and desktop. I like having the ability to separate them to see if there were differences for each platform, but sometimes there are themes that would be easier to compline with one task on both platforms.

I'd also love a SUS template that magically calculated SUS score so I didn't have to do it in excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for iterative design and usability testing - it's the best tool for those tests. For generative research, we still do in-person interviews.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
being able to tag notes and clips makes synthesis so easy! It's also great for remote teams.

    Retail

Intuitive, quick, and easy way to get quick feedback

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to design, launch, and receive results
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes hard when there are multiple segments of customers to keep track of all the different tests
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Major design flaws and issues with our sites from a usability standpoint as well as better understanding our customers

    Fund-Raising

Couldn't work without it

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best feature by far is just being able to recruit my target audience within minutes. The time and effort it saves is invaluable.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it was easier to have face-to-face interviews online, and it would be great if there were suggested clips when playing back videos.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm mostly using it for needs assessment and usability testing on prototypes. I have been able to justify or not justify projects and be able to make smart design decisions knowing it's what my audience needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's the most efficient way to get feedback from current and potential audiences.

    Telecommunications

Best in class testing platform, but so hard to do business with

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
UserTesting just works. I've never ran into technical issues when launching studies - something all too familiar on other platforms. Plus, when I've had questions, support teams have been wonderful and quick in solving my problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's so hard to get a license! Negotiation takes forever, especially now with their new "session units" policy that makes me feel like I'm buying micropayments on a freemium app. If I had an alternative, I'd switch just because they're so hard to do business with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Testing our designs pre-development has allowed us to cut development time and costs substantially
