    Laura L.

It does what it needs but it could be more intuitive.

What do you like best about the product?
I've quite enjoyed how fast it's been to gain user insights - when a test gets published I tend to get first results in an hour. It works really well in imitating new user situations and people generally know to give enough details and share their thoughts throughout the testing process. It's been good to use for building empathy and conviction in product teams - nothing works as well as having real users share their experience in their own words.
What do you dislike about the product?
The usability of the environment isn't too great. So it's a bit time consuming to learn, plus some actions in setting up tests just aren't intuitive. After you learn how to set up what you need and do some run-throughs, it luckily isn't that big of a hassle but I'd honestly prefer to learn how to use a platform to the max without a demo session - just my personal preference.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've mostly used it to spot usability issues quickly and what implications some designs have. I also use it to find hints of larger product problems that we can research through live user-testing sessions and interviews later. Though I haven't used the aid of UT for the latter.
The main benefit I've seen is the speed of which I can get tests done. Though it's also provided enough background to guide us in exploring solutions for more complex problems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely worth it to try, it might fit your needs.

Quick feedback for concepts/designs/architecture

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
UserTesting provides a panel of users and gets feedback very quickly -- sometimes in a few hours. I love that the videos are easily accessible and can be shared or edited.

I can also create screeners and templates to easily able designers on my team to complete their own research. We continue to use usertesting for this use case. This allows UX researchers, like myself, to focus on the strategic research projects and helps enable others to do user testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some UT users participate in a lot of studies and can come off as "professional testers."
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It can take a long time and energy to recruit and setup user feedback sessions. I like that UT helps to make this process more efficient. It's great to help product and design set up their own tests and get results quickly. Setting up users for those teams might take me several days to complete otherwise.

What do you like best about the product?
Getting insights from real users, hearing their reactions in their own voice.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would've loved testing with even more users but it was too costly for my limited budget.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
User research for a social impact platform.

Unvetted Participants but Overall Good Experience

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to set up multiple questions to move participants through easily. Easy to follow format for multi-step testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
They do not vet their participants. We were specifically seeking college students, and marked it required that the tester be in school, but instead got people who even admitted they were not college students, but one made some excuse about "thinking about going back at 45". They self-selected what they thought the test wanted just to get paid and were not valuable in specific feedback. Many participants were also incredibly racist and sexist.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used UserTesting for navigation testing, along with testing key terms. We were seeking the benefit of getting experiences from students at multiple colleges, to get a feel for what other students were experiencing in a myriad of online settings. The benefit was being able to cast a wide geographical net.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be very specific in your user vetting questions. Have a clear idea of what feedback you need and give the testers a very clear path that keeps them going on a good clip. Make sure you test in both Firefox and Chrome.

A very easy-to-use platform!

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Overall ease of use - UserTesting is *super easy* to jump in and set up tests within a couple of hours
- All the panel management is handed for you (you can of course create your own panel too)
- There's a very large audience (although a little generic) means you get feedback within minutes
- Auto-transcribe works great under good circumstances (although struggles a little if the participant is prone to mumbling in to the microphone)
What do you dislike about the product?
- More variation of tests (e.g. better test workflow management and actual A/B split tests)
- There are other products out there where codification / sorting of findings work a bit better
- Jumping between video segments was a little fiddly - could do with a re-work
- Better panel creation and management, and the ability to filter by additional, more targeted cohorts and dimensions would be good.
- Corporate permission model could do with being updated - it could be a little more intuitive
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
UserTesting is flexible enough to allow testing for (and gain some good, in-depth feedback for) a large array of user problems from single UIs to a testing entire user journeys.

User testing is great for understanding real user issues

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The quick turnaround in getting users testing- from testing something quick to a more in depth test it allows for quick testing on key things. It also offers a variety of options for testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dashboard is sometimes limited but otherwise no complaints!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using real user feedback to understand the best approaches to our web and mobile platforms. We are solving both large and small issues as they come up and as we're designing. We have had countless benefits as we are able to test almost all our interface decisions and content.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for it! and ensure you also buy the Live Conversation product as it is a great asset- sometimes it is difficult to get everything you need from complex testing by unmoderated testing alone. Moderated is a great option

What do you like best about the product?
Recruits ideal users quickly. Test creation is easy. Love the customer success team.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing of Power/Standard seats, but I get it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quick testing, empowering designers, easy recruitment. Opportunities for quick iterative testing with a low lift
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look through their extensive Knowledge base and understand their pricing options before signing. talk to someone in customer success to make sure your needs would be met using the tool.

    Non-Profit Organization Management

Highly Recommend this tool for UX Research

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that videos are recorded (screen and voice) so it makes it easy to look at insights, take notes, etc. I like that I can create clips to share with colleagues, and that I can play around with a lot of settings. I use it heavily for User Research for my job as a Product Designer. I also like that I can rewind, fast forward, speed up, slow down, and take notes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the user interface could be improved. It's difficult sometimes to see which test I'm on, I feel like they can do better at making it more intuitive. I also wish I could conduct live interviews, instead of just posting my prototype. Also, the note-taking capabilities can be improved as well. I feel like taking notes on there is disorderly. Maybe they could have a transcript option that transcribes everything for me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using UserTesting to conduct usability studies. I like having all my test saved on the platform so I can always go back to review them,

    Lacey V.

The best tool for very fast user feedback

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I was most impressed by how quickly our videos came back from testers; within hours. The responses were also good quality, so I felt like they had done a good job at finding the right people (although I also set up the test itself with screener questions and targeting). I also loved that it was easy for me to set up; I have some experience with user research but not a lot, and still felt like I was able to use the tool to get good results.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that I need an enterprise plan in order to go above a certain # of tests; that has been the biggest thing holding me back since we're a small organization that really only needs this service on an ad hoc basis.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We already get feedback from our most engaged users directly; UserTesting has helped us better understand how users interpret our website if they are NOT a core user. The feedback we got from our first run of user tests was really helpful in framing our portrait of website visitors and overall brand impressions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try a small run of video feedback first before you commit to more; you will learn about better ways to set up your questions or response flow by viewing the initial responses.
