Decent Cloud Storage Option

  • October 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dropbox has been around for a long time and has been a useful tool for sharing large files that otherwise could be emailed. Dropbox gives you various storage options ranging from free to different levels of paid accounts. Implementation of the application is simple - download, sign-in, and use. Virtually no other setup is required, so it is easy to integrate into any work process.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not much I don't like, and most of that is more personal opinion than functionality. I dislike that the share option seems to keep getting moved around (Mac version) and can be a little cumbersome to use. I would like to see a faster, more stable syncing (it works, but it can be slow sometimes). I am not fond of the automatic "features" you have to disable -- I appreciate that they try to make it easy for a new user, but for experienced people, it can be a real pain. And lastly, I would love to see an updated and fully rewritten MacOS application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem that Dropbox solves for me is the ability to easily share large documents with my team without needing everyone to sign up for a service or learn a complicated platform. This saves a lot of time, as there is no need to compress files highly.

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to drop files into it, easy to find files after I've added them.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not as easy to use as other services now like Google Drive. At one time it was great but it's been surpassed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a great way to share files with others and have them send me files.

Dropbox - not a wise option for cloud storage

  • October 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UI of dropbox is quite clean, it does what the name suggests - just drag and drop files/folders into the web UI and it automatically backs them up to cloud. Hence I consider it to a easy to use software with limited functionalities.
What do you dislike about the product?
It gives only 2GB of free storage per account. Which is considerably less as compared to Google Drive which offers 15 GB of free storage. Experience in sharing of files and folders is also not very good as compared to its competitor google drive. Since google drive comes as a part of g-suite and is pre installed in many of the android devices, it is mostly the go-to cloud storage option rather than dropbox.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps in backing up important files and folders, which in-turn helps in store them securely over cloud - which is free from chances of corruption, or from getting lost/deleted. Since it has backup of 30 days in trash, I can easily recovery mistakenly deleted files/folders. Hence I consider dropbox as a safe storage which can be used to backup important files over cloud.

Dropbox is an easy document service that allows me to store, search, and share decades worth of work

What do you like best about the product?
Dropbox has an easy-to-navigate UI that prioritizes recently opened documents and integrates mobile and desktop views easily. They also have online versions of word and excel as well as google apps that allow me to stay in Dropbox as I update documents.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dropbox once lost a critical document of mine. Even with customer service support, it could not be recovered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to share documents in Dropbox with collaborators within and outside our organization.

Long time user. I've been the alternatives, and it's still the best cloud based storage platform.

What do you like best about the product?
It's good if you dont have alot of storage on your phone. It's easy to make an account and you can access your things from any devce with your account which is nice.
What do you dislike about the product?
the interface is not intutive, it's difficult to find your stuff nad sort out your stored items. They continuously email you and it gets very annoying.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it's good for collaboration and sharing files. It'suseful for when you need to acces files/photos/presentations from multiple devices.

    Non-Profit Organization Management

It's a very reliable service

  • October 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very convienent and extremely reliable. It is meant to last a long time, I've used dropbox for years and it still holds up. I think it's best for business and or personal photo use, as it's also extremely safe and guarded.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has some outdated design and technological features that I'd like to see improve up to the times / make it worth competing against other services who have them as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The cyber attack / selling information problem. I've never received any reason to believe that DropBox has sold my information or eased up safety walls so that hackers can come in and take my info / look at my stuff. They have a very strong wall and protocol against such attacks that are at the center of technology's problems right now.

Great at data storage, but lacking in collaboration

  • October 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's simple to use. Everything follows logical folder structure and it's very simple to control permissioning and sharing for internal/external parties.I appreciate the version control capabilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest issue is collaboration and simultaneous editing with peers. I understand this is not the main focus of Dropbox, but competitors like Google Drive and Microsoft Teams have this feature. I can open PowerPoint and Excel on my desktop and save in Dropbox, but I run into editing conflicts with peers. This means I create a v1 to vX versions of a file, leaving me with a ton of archived work. Sometimes it's just easier to use Google or Teams where I can work on a single document with someone else at the same time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem is solves is cloud data storage. I work in a team of 3 and it's helpful to have all of our documents hosted in a single place.
