We are trying to solve a whole host of problems in the social sciences by using research databases.

Statistical Analysis using R

  • October 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
R makes it very easy to combine data manipulation with statistical analysis. Predictive analytics are easy to derive insights from in the same tool that you would use for data extraction and manipulation.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some issues with R when trying to production tables and outputs where a language like python would work better. Also the SQL interface when using RMarkdown is not always reliable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With R we are able to parse data, perform data cleanup, and run geolocation analysis through available packages.

IDE for any Data Analyst

  • October 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There are a couple different reasons. 1) Being able to use have all the many features of the R language in a succinct interface enhances productivity so well. 2). The R community and the packages behind the R language give any user the necessary tools to do anything under the sun. It is just finding the right package and then understanding how it should be utilized within the current application one is using. 3). The aesthetic of the UI feels natural and helps the experience to be easy and straightforward.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is built on a web-based platform, there are times that the connection between the R kernel and the IDE. It can be annoying.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Well, most of our business data problems have been solved using Excel. Being that Excel is a wonderful tool it has helped. However, it has been difficult to reproduce our analysis. Of course, there is the ability to save multiple copies of the data, but at the end of the day, there isn't a way to easily version an excel file which R and Rstudio have been able to give the RMarkdown and R Notebook structure.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is a learning curve to the scripting language of R and look overwhelming to those who have not had a background in coding. However, RStudio is the best way to start as it aids the user by giving easy visibility to the data and the R package environment which are both essential elements of the R language.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that everything is customizable. Very useful for plotting data, making graphs and doing calculations for data analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
Steep learning curve to get familiar with the software and use all of the functionalities. However, there are online tutorials available, as well as classes at most major universities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am doing calculations e.g. statistics for data analysis, and making figures for publications towards my doctoral degree.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Very useful tool once the basics are down for doing statistics and creating aesthetically professional plots / graphs / figures.

Better than nothing

  • October 12, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the variety of options that RStudio provides. In other words, you could either programming with R or managing data sets or do both simultaneously. That's really conviniety as you shouldn't switch between different sofwares.
What do you dislike about the product?
Poor ( in my opinion) and non-friendly interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I tried to solve anything, but faced far from intuitive interface and stopped using RStudio.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it before running Stata if applicable.
