Akamai Review(current customer0

What do you like best about the product?
Global server presence. Reduces latency.
Used for downloads so downloads are expected to be from the closes local server.
What do you dislike about the product?
Kind of expensive to use. The variable pricing model is not conducive to our business. Would prefer to have fixed costs for unlimited use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1. Distributing apps globally in the fasted and most relevant way possible.
2. We have benefited from Akamai's uptime promise and download speeds, even under the most demanding conditions,

What do you like best about the product?
No shortage of services or programs offered. Akamai can truly deliver a customizable experience for everyone, business and individuals alike. For e-commerce sites I highly recommend it as they are able to deliver what I haven't really seen from any other vendors.
What do you dislike about the product?
Our support wait times were a little longer than they were from other smaller vendors, but I suspect that's because the level of investment we had with Akamai was smaller than usual. For what we paid though I would still say that it was a good value.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have only used this in an e-commerce perspective but I would say that Akamai is really great. The client I was working with especially had trouble with their mobile e commerce site (which if you've ever worked on one, it's a pretty big pain to go from desktop to mobile.) Akamai had a whole suits of services offered tailored specifically to mobile which, for my client, was a boon. Their mobile site was slow and clunky and Akamai was able to optimize everything so that we were running much quicker with lower latency. The impressiveness was in how quickly and easily we were able to simplify the scale. If we were to pay an individual to do it for us it would've taken a long time and we would've lost out on potential revenue in the down time. Akamai in that sense paid for itself pretty quickly in terms of non-lost investment.

What do you like best about the product?
My favorite product in their suite is the Property Manager, which is the latest version of their configuration management portal for managing edge caching configurations. In previous versions of the Luna Control panel, many options were not exposed to end users and required working with customer care to get them added to the configuration. In property manager you can control and tune hundreds of settings, its very rare we have needed to loop in ccare for config changes. As a caching solution in front of an S3 or ec2 origin, cloudfront has maybe 20% of the options compared to Akamai.
What do you dislike about the product?
When you do need to loop in professional services/advanced consulting, it is not cheap. Configurations can also take quite awhile to propagate (2-4 hours). API availability has been very poor thus far, we would love to automate generating configurations, and i believe there are initiatives around releasing these API's to public soon, it has just been slow to come (we've been asking for a couple years).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Hopefully you are able to understand your expected traffic at Akamai's edge, so you can negotiate the best price/GB based on what tier you land in.
