GTM is awesome!

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Their GTM product is very flexible (rich apis) and stable. This was not the case with my previous DNS provider.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their support is not always the fastest. A couple of times, I had to nudge my account manager to push tickets forward.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a globally distributed application. We use Akamai's GTM to balance traffic across all the POPs. This will route end-users to the closest healthy POP to them.

What do you dislike about the product?

Akamai - Trustworthy for avoiding attacks and caching

  • October 08, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For high traffic sites you want your pages to be cached. Akamai does a good job at that. Also they do great at protecting your site against any attack like DDoS or phishing attack.
Recently launched feature of fast purge is nice as it purges lage under 5 seconds
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes purging pages don’t go through. It very rarely happens but that’s the only thing I noticed.
The UI of the site can use some clean up as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Here are few -
1. Site is protected against various attacks
2. Pages pull up fast and we have great uptime as they are cached
3. Lot of data monitoring is possible
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It’s a good service. In a way money well spent

Great solution, but highly complex and cumbersome to manage

  • July 14, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
They have an amazing number of nodes all over the world, speeding up access to resources needed to load our sites dramatically
What do you dislike about the product?
Managing permissions is almost a dark art, requiring numerous tickets and teams from Akami to be involved, at least that's my experience with them
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Slow site load speeds on the West Coast (Our datacenter is in Toronto)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at Azure/Amazon CDN options instead

Akamai Audience Analytics (Video Analytics)

  • August 31, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Can be configured, but takes a lot of time to figure out how - not as easy as they try to make it seem.
What do you dislike about the product?
Way more complicated to set up analytics then it should be. Still seems not very advanced; especially when asking specific questions about the product in trying to configure as needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Video views. Can get video views IF set up as needed
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Akamai can be useful; but the implementation can be tricky so need to be very hands on with requirements and making sure everything is implemented as needed. At times, need to really be pushy as the vendor may try to convince you everything is ok. That said, it feels all video analytics tools are still in the early stages - so take your pick depending on needs.

Reliable, robust and helpful

What do you like best about the product?
First, a disclaimer: I am a product/project manager, not an expert in CDNs and cloud hosting, so I cannot comment on deeply technical aspects of the Akamai ecosystem. But having used Akamai as a CDN on several highly-trafficked global websites, I have always had a good experience of Akamai as a robust, highly sophisticated system to ensure resilient global delivery.

I particularly appreciate the customer service provided from onboarding to operations, and the commitment to customer success. There is a structured process to take clients through the service, to ensure that configuration is managed correctly, and that all possible optimisations are adopted.

I have also found the Akamai online portal easy to use to execute simple configurations and purge the Akamai cache - simple enough for non-technical users such as myself to feel they have control over content appearing around the world.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have had no specific problems with Akamai.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Akamai to deliver web content to large global audiences, taking the load off our origin servers and ensuring efficient, controlled content distribution.

Akamai is the Leader in caching and serving websites

  • August 26, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Caching our web properties to make them available to the public en mass.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes hard to learn the new Property Manager over the Config Manager.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are serving our websites without have the load on the origin servers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Still the leader in providing caching for web properties.

CDN with a Reputation

What do you like best about the product?
Akamai is a trusted name in content delivery, and well known for their other products. Using their CDN services just feels good. Of course, it does not disappoint. Their UI is intuitive, and easy to use in general.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI seems a little outdated in terms of styling. Even with a solid product, they can't hang in terms of UI design with Cloudflare and the like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CDN services! It's nice to use Akamai if you also want performance monitoring and the like..
Recommendations to others considering the product:
USE THEIR OTHER PRODUCTS. They integrate seamlessly, so why not?

The most recognizable CDN

  • May 19, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Akamai has a large network of edge servers (they claim to be within 1 hop of 85% of users), and they do provide very fast load times to end users. They also provide some useful analytics about traffic and site visitors.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their console isn't very intuitive, and they are a little slow to provision resources behind the scenes - certificates can take days, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a good CDN, they reduce load on our servers and speed up delivery to the end user.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Akamai is a good CDN, but they are not very agile. You definitely have to plan out changes to your properties in advance.
