Essential if you have tracking in mind
What do you like best about the product?
I like the way it integrates with any other analytics and marketing tools and seemingly collect and pass on the full customer data. I was also impressed by the price and ease of implementation.
What do you dislike about the product?
For the purpose that Segment fulfills, i don't see any faults or lack of features. All that was needed is there pre-packed and ready.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I needed to tie user data with its session data in an easy way and have it passed on to other analytic tools and marketing tools to properly analyze conversions, the path to conversions, session details and so on. Segment was essential in tying user data with session, now each session corresponds to a specific user with all its historical data and not just an anonymous number.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You have to try Segment, it is the tool to tie all your user data.

The only analytics tool that is an absolute must
What do you like best about the product?
With Segment, my company has been able to decouple our software development efforts from improvements to our analytics, allowing our business to analyze data easier and simpler than ever before.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some third party integrations require special data be sent in order for them to work correctly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All of our company's analytics are being done through Segment now, letting us iterate on how we react to data at the speed of our data analysts instead of at the speed of software development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Read the documentation carefully and use the entire range of API calls, including "alias," from the beginning.
Great for startups
What do you like best about the product?
Implementing segment in your code will allow you to use 3rd parties with very low effort
What do you dislike about the product?
Some bugs need to be ironed out. Integration with some 3rd parties need rework to be more robust.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Very low implementing & switching costs between 3rd parties (wanna switch from Mixpanel to Aplitude? Done in 5 minutes without a line of code)
Send product usage data to any system!
What do you like best about the product?
Sending product usage data to any system. It allows other teams (marketing, sales, etc.) to start using this data and implementing new systems without any engineering time. It's awesome!

What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I have found at all to dislike. It is incredibly easy to use and valuable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can automate how we communicate with our customers based on how they use our product. We can then encourage ideal customer behaviour.
Best option for instrumentation
What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility! Love the ability to send data wherever and combine datasets in redshift.
What do you dislike about the product?
Web interface used to be very clunky, now it is much easier to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One time instrumentation! Saves tons of time and takes out friction from trying out 3rd party tools
Bringing it all together
What do you like best about the product?
We can bring information in from our application and send it out to a variety of sources to track metrics, usage, communications, conversions and more. Instead of littering our code with a dozen javascript libraries, links and other maintenance and loading headaches, we can consolidate it into calls that do what we specifically want.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of the integrations don't let you set filters for what events to send through without paying a lot for their business plan (not great for startups). For example, we don't always want to include our developers in analytics, but we need to write the filters on the app side as opposed to the segment side in order to facilitate this. In addition, integrating it into your app requires coding on your app side. It would be nice if you could feed selected info to segment and then create rules on the segment side as to what to do with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have improved page load time for our app while simultaneously allowing more systems to get our data, and to get the data in a structured way that we define.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Unless you can do some scripting/coding, this product isn't for you. However, if this doesn't frighten you, Segment is a very powerful tool for spraying information across a variety of destinations.

It quickly allows us to test the different analytics dashboards and platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be expensive when you use this in conjunction with other paid analytics tools. But overall a great service.

Quickly integrate and iterate with different analytics platforms.

Try it out. It is pretty quick to test. And really helpful for using with new analytics tools. Love the overall design of the product.
Seamless
What do you like best about the product?
I can enable and disable integrations with a variety of platforms without having to edit my codebase - it's actually pretty amazing how simple it is.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no way to review an integration - it would be cool to be able to say "Segment + Intercom is a great experience, it works as well as integrating directly" or "You lose some flexibility if you integrate through Segment".
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We integrate with a variety of platforms, so it's nice to be able to only have to deal with one API.

Very useful product
What do you like best about the product?
Allows you to enable many extensions by just including the snippet for segment once in your code.
What do you dislike about the product?
The segment debugger isn't the most useful when you're trying to figure out whether your data is being sent to all the extensions you enabled correctly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There are many analytics tools out there and without segment you would have to add them to your application one by one, which is a very tedious process. With segment, you only have to include segment once.

Useful when you have a lot of analytics software you want to use in your application.

Ability to include multiple analytics scripts from single dashboard.

Pricing is too high for a startup. If you use it for free you are limited to use one source only.
Also, many times i have encountered a problem that segmentjs take forever to load or does not load at all.

Adding and testing new analytics tools like woopra and mouseflow are a breeze.

If you can afford it, go for it for sure.
