The orchestra conductor of your product and marketing data
What do you like best about the product?
With Segment it's really easy to plug many different tools to get data in and out of them. The catalog contains 99% of the tools we use making Segment our default choice to connect those tools. Customer Support is also very efficient making it easy to solve issues once we reach out.
What do you dislike about the product?
For some tools not all features are supported, this forces us to build workarounds making the system more fragile. On top of that the documentation on the downstream tools is not always up to date.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment is extremely helpful to avoid reimplementing tracking snippets all over the code. The engineers can simply define an event once using Segment's code and then that definition is applied to all the other downstream tools.

Segment is the core of our business intelligence and customer engagement
What do you like best about the product?
Brilliant concept for a platform technology. Also super impressed with the support for startups.
What do you dislike about the product?
We initially struggled with the javascript integration within our Chrome extension, but we've been find since moving to server side analytics.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Simple analytics that helps us grow our business with minimal incremental engineering effort.
Great solution for tracking and integration needs
What do you like best about the product?
Web-based interface to configure integrations. This has saved our engineering team hundreds and perhaps even thousands of hours of configuration, integration and development of our tracking implementation and integration with third party libraries.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cost increases linearly as your monthly unique user increases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking, third party integration, integration with data warehouses, PII data in tracking detection and alerts
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This provided us with an out of the box tracking solution for both our webapp and native mobile app. In addition, this made it easier for us to integrate with third party libraries (client javascript snippets) and to stream data to our data warehouse as well. Segment can handle both client side and server side integration for tracking.
Segment is the core tool of our growth stack, and the #1 integration I look for in other tools
What do you like best about the product?
- The variety of integrations, and possibility to create custom ones either through Source Functions or a combination of Cloud Function + HTTP source
- The reliability of the platform: I trust Segment 100% with my data flow, it also has great reporting, still need to try Protocols but looks very promising
- The flexibility of the tool: selective syncs are a nice feature, Source Functions as well
- The great support
- The API

What do you dislike about the product?
- The HubSpot source needs improvements in my opinion: selective sync at the source, better handling of deleted objects -> if it could be based on webhooks from the HubSpot app instead of recurring updates I think it would not only be more efficient in terms of sync schedules with the database, but also in terms of HubSpot API rate limit usage
- Personas: the identity resolution needs improving, as well as the format of the json payloads sent as webhooks (entered audience for instance, doesn't contain much data and forces the receiving endpoint to perform another call to the Profiles API to fetch more insightful data)

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have built our entire growth stack around our Segment organization. It is the #1 integration I look for when prospecting for new tools, and if they don't have a native integration I build it myself through webhooks.
Using Segment enables smooth & efficient tracking of users, events, page views, accounts, and takes care of the translation of the data between tools - I don't know what else someone could ask for.
If a stack does not contain Segment, then it's highly probable that the tracking is not efficient, and most importantly missing data points - and I'm not even mentioning what the data pipeline between tools would look like...

Incredible time saver
What do you like best about the product?
Time-saving, simplicity and flexibility are the core benefits I see in using Segment.
The funny thing is these 3 benefits are apparent from the /overview page on the web app. At a glance you'll see where your events come from and where they're sent. In a matter of seconds you can route your events to a data warehouse or any third-party provider you see fit. It's magic!

What do you dislike about the product?
As the amount of tracked events rise, it becomes hard to know what events serve what purpose, without going back to the code and check when the event is fired.
I think the Protocols feature was built with that in mind, but it's super expensive and I thing it ought to come for free as a core feature in the product. Ultimately, it's the kind of user pain that should be solved for free by tracking tools imho.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the big problems Segment solves is not having to track events for every single analytics tool you decide to use. Let's say you're on Amplitude, and then decide to use Mixpanel for a different, specific purpose. Well with Segment you need not do any additional work. Just route the events to Mixpanel and you're all set!
One other incredible benefit is being able to send events to an internal data warehouse. This is powerful because it means you can query data contained in Segment tables, along with data from your proprietary database.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Implement Segment from the start! Switching later will be painful.
Segment has been super useful for my job routine
What do you like best about the product?
I can have an excellent visualization of the events that are being sent, how they are organized, which destinations are linked to the sources. I think very intuitive add a new destination as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The debugger is quite limited. I 'm a data scientist and use a lot of this feature to troubleshooting any new event and raw data sent over destinations but the amount of data show at debugger is small and my searches for some problem almost never retrieve good results.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The organization for sure. We have a portal that contains dozens of events and it is complex to keep everything mapped and organized. For this task, Segment is so much straightforward. Also, our BI team is small and Segment helped me with its intuitive interface since other people than me can add a destination, troubleshooting things and I can save time on it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a great orchestration tool. For sure you have to know in deep what sources you want to track and some development support is strongly necessary. However, the daily maintenance is much more easier
The world's best customer data infrastructure
What do you like best about the product?
Segment is incredible simple to integrate, and then pushing the data into your tools of choice (and in turn integrating those into your stack) is so simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a little unclear that Segment implements downstream tools (like Hubspot or Intercom) for you! It makes things almost too easy!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps us understand how our software is being used, and what our customers care about.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just do it - it's the most powerful way to get your customer data infrastructure set up so you know what your users are doing!
Drastically Simplifies the Complexity of Gathering Website Interactions
What do you like best about the product?
There are many features I love, but the two that stand out to me are analytics.js and the debug console.
Analytics.js eliminates duplicate code, lesses the possibility of errors, and ensures all of your analytical platforms are consuming the same events.
The debug console is the first place I visit if there is an error. It gives you a single interface where you can filter events in real-time, see the data object, and review any consumption errors.

What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the documentation is not correct and debugging custom events that are not firing correctly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Implementing advanced analytics can be a tedious job. And when you add multiple platforms (ex. FB Analytics, Google Analytics, Marketing Automation Tracker,...) the complexity begins to become unmanageable. This problem is what Segment solves very well. With one library a customer can send correctly formatted information to all the platforms at once. One system to setup, one library to integrate, one service to debug.
Segment has made life easier
What do you like best about the product?
The best part about segment is how easy it is to connect additional sources to test out and see if they give you the results you need as well as only having to integrate with segment and not each individual vendor
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really it works as expected and works great
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a product manager, there are many tools out there that I want to try to see if it will provide me with more insight, in the past I would have to bring in a story into a sprint to have a dev team implement this now I can just do it myself.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When you turn on a source, might be worth testing it out on a dev environment we had an instance where injected javascript caused collisions with our product. Otherwise, no issues.
Early adopter reporting in
What do you like best about the product?
We at X-Cart use Segment since it's earIy days. I really like how simple is to enable a new system just to try. I don't remember when we spent time on new integration.
What do you dislike about the product?
High cost for new users (and those who wanted to upgrade from archive plans). But this is business, I understand.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Time from an idea of attaching new system to integration is reduced from weeks to hours.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a chance, definitely.
