Extremely flexible customer data platform which should sit at the middle of any company's martech
What do you like best about the product?
lots of sources and destinations available, as well as custom sources and destinations to tailor to own needs if they currently aren't supported. Requires less dev resources than other competitors as far as im aware
What do you dislike about the product?
Some destinations and source ownership between Segment and their partners can lead to a bit of back and forth (e.g. SDKs, missing features or bugs in functionality) with support teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Resolving customer identity and being able to conglomerate all activities a customer experiences in one place with Personas. Easy to set up server-side tracking as well to circumvent ad blockers and create a complete source of truth when it comes to event tracking.

Central Source of Truth for company data
What do you like best about the product?
I can centralize all data, achieving consistency and transparency.
What do you dislike about the product?
Impossible to revert events when sent. This can be painful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We populate our CRM (HubSpot) with data coming from our Website / Web App. We can send all data to our data warehouse for BI purposes.
Lots of promises
What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Segment is how it rallies the team around instrumenting events to make use of the massive amount of money you have spent. If you have a few common tools, it also helps sync those events or SAAS products to your data warehouse, but is overall a much more expensive solution than something like Fivetran, Stitch, et al for that latter use case. As far as data sync goes, it does help with data governance, but I can't help but think how that can be afforded through a conscious effort in a smaller team without such constraints.
What do you dislike about the product?
During the sales process and throughout the documentation, Segment promises a lot of things by either omitting information or oversimplifying integration. It is very worthwhile to read thoroughly through that documentation to fully understand the integration efforts before you sign a contract, as it isn't always as simple as firing an event to segment and pushing it somewhere else. They are improving this with cloud actions, but they can only do so much to abstract away the complexities and individual requirements of downstream destinations.
The Segment UI has a tonne of bugs and lacks documentation or helper text throughout (way better than Rudderstack though), which leaves you needing to reach out to support often for workarounds or explanations that sometimes their team cannot even provide.
Segment's BigQuery integration is stuck in 2012, generating a different dataset for each source and a different table for each event, which completely ignores the unique aspect of BigQuery in being able to (and preferring you to) design datasets with JSON-like structures. Even Google Analytics is sending events to a single table, which almost makes it a superior solution for tracking events in combination with its data layer.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problem: Many different destinations with different named, defined, and described events.
Benefits: Rallying the team around a common data governance structure, which we had started anyways. Sometimes spending money can get people to rally around anything.

Segment is really useful tool and its connection with Amplitude is extraordinarily successful.
What do you like best about the product?
Glad to Segment, we can track our events' data in a way more efficient way than other tools, also its connection with Amplitude helps to prepare important analyses really easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find Segment useful in many ways, the only feature I would like it to be improved is the delay in event processing. If it was faster, we could get better quality service.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is much easier to transfer and manage event data with Segment. It's dashboards allow us to track live events and search for user-based events. Our performance is increased visibly.
A perfect tool to track your app events
What do you like best about the product?
As a developer, I like the fact I can debug event tracking in real-time also the convenience of having a single place where I can route my events to other analytics apps such as Mixpanel, Google Analytics etc
What do you dislike about the product?
The one and only thing I dislike on Segment it's when I want to debug events of a source that has many track requests simultaneously it's hard for me to find it and often I have to try and find it at the destination app.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping track and routing thousands of user events that helps me and my team with user experience analysis. Also the implementation it's pretty easy and the documentation is well described and helpful.
Good CDP tool
What do you like best about the product?
It is extremely easy to integrate with. It also has a lot of outgoing integrations which makes the life of our engineers a whole lot easier. The user interface is also intuitive enough for product managers to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing so far really. It is easy to use and integrate with. No issues thus far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were sending events to multiple platforms such as Amplitude, MoEngage and Hotjar. To reduce code and integrations, we decided to explore using a CDP so that the integrations will only need to be done once.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend using Segment if you find yourself having to integrate with multiple tools for sending data. Use Segment and no more unnecessary clunky integrations.
easiest installation
What do you like best about the product?
it was super easy to install, my colleague finished before we finished looking at the instructions
What do you dislike about the product?
nothing, there was no negative parts of using it
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
easy integration between chameleon and the software i use
Segment Review (:
What do you like best about the product?
The interface is really clean, to find what you need is really easy and simple. Synchronized with Segment, I use the Amplitude. Being able to see the track events in real-time with all the properties is really good!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sincerely, there's nothing on Segment right now that I dislike, I think this web app is really good for the purpose of event tracking. As I said, it's a really clean interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm dealing with event tracking. In Segment, the events come and we can see its properties. Also, from Segment, the event, and its properties, are sent to Amplitude.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a wonderful web app, no doubt.
I wish I knew about Segment when I founded my previous company.
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of integration with analytics platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
Debugging events can be a little tricky sometimes, especially when you have a high-traffic app or website.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We dispatch data from multiple sources to multiple targets with minimal API integration.
Segment does exactly what it says and does it well.
What do you like best about the product?
I greatly appreciate that Segment offers multiple ways to add tracking, from programmatic methods to click user interfaces. This has worked well and has been deployed across multiple web platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
Segment can be a little bit confusing to set up for the regular user.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Improved analytics. We can also follow specific user behaviors.
