Very convenient for SaaS companies
What do you like best about the product?
- Works very well as a "data hub" to ingest data and forward data off to other sources (marketing tools, analytics, data warehouse)
- Does a lot of things well out of the box. Data teams can be productive without needing help from engineers
- Scales well as your company grows

What do you dislike about the product?
- With the event debugger, you can only view events in real time. You can't inspect events from the past
- Data governance is difficult to manage. The protocols product doesn't really help much. No good solutions for managing data quality in your events
- Expensive and has vendor lock-in, hard to change once you've investing in setting up the instrumentation

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes event instrumentation much easier for product companies.
For Saas teams, the account management feature are good, events can be associated with groups and not just individuals

Must have when getting started with analytics
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to set up, set and forget. Simply implement their easy API and then you will have the ability to switch on many different integrations.
What do you dislike about the product?
You'll need to reimplement the service's API itself if you want to do something segment doesn't support (e.g. using an id over an email for instance)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solves the problem of having to spend a lot of time setting up each integration we need as a fast-growing start-up.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Even if you only need to integrate one platform, better to spend the time setting up segment than that one platform - then you have access to countless others.
Great CDP with growing list of capabilities
What do you like best about the product?
The ease with which you can send events to destinations (ad platforms, ESPs, etc.). Also helps marketers, product managers, and engineers get on the same page about what is and should be tracked.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be great to have a system similar to Facebook pixel helper that lets you click around your site to create/define events. Instead, you have to rely on engineers to code each event. And it would be great to have a tool that helps you create a schema. It's laborious work that could be easier with some sort of tool to help guide someone through that process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment simplifies collecting data around how users interact with your product and communicating that data to external sources, like ad platforms, email providers, etc.
Wonderful start into event analytics and CDP world
What do you like best about the product?
Web platform is perfectly designed for newbiees. Even if I don't have any prior experinces on CDP, event analytics world , I never faced any difficulties within platform
What do you dislike about the product?
To be honest, I don't have any! But maybe a brief onboarding assets can be implemented when a new user signs up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am a business user and been trying to get insights on mixpanel. I can directly go to segment to see how our events are send to database, without asking to data people. It helps me save time and effort.
Finally a way to connect everything.
What do you like best about the product?
Segment provides native integrations to get events and data from most of the services we use to all of the places we need to see reports. This includes frontend analytics, payments, engagement metrics, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be cumbersome to set up multiple instances of the same sources (i.e. web events) with different destinations (i.e. Mixpanel, GA, or your own reporting solutions). Ultimately it is possible and Segment has made significant improvements in allowing copying configurations, but setting up a complete graph of data connections still requires a lot of repetitive configuration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment connects sources of data (analytics, engagement events, record collections for reporting, etc) with the places that data is used for reporting and further engagement (everything from Slack to Mixpanel to BI tools). We benefit from segment because our operations and executive team can easily see the results of product and sales efforts due to reporting made possible by Segment.
Very useful customer data paltform solution
What do you like best about the product?
good ecosystem of source/destinations to send/receive events across from your application. Good personas integration to build strong audiences using event data
What do you dislike about the product?
docs around pricing could be more clear. MTU based pricing is not easy to figure out early.
Also currently the segment public api documentation can be improved - the old api docs are available as well as the new api docs

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
using segment as a customer data platform to send events from a variety of internal sources. and using destinations to send events downstream. actively looking to use data privacy portal capabilities
A perfect CDP to use
What do you like best about the product?
The simple and intuitive UI, all the necessary features and a great Customer support.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation can be improved. It is a little bit inaccurate or outdated in some places.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using segment to collect, manipulate and send users data to different destinations for many IBM Offerings. Segment has been so effective and easy solution for us. It provides almost 0 delay event generation and stream. Our customer portfolio has been increased because of segment's capabilities.
Everything you need from a central customer data hub (well almost)
What do you like best about the product?
Getting data in, routed and out to destinations is super easy while giving the flexibility you need. Also the PID management is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Full data reseidency in the EU should be a standard option across all plans. This can eventually be a dealbreaker.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Control over data collection and unification while changing tools. Also great to have a data pipeline for you dev environment.
Great tool for tracking accessing customer behaviour
What do you like best about the product?
Simple to set up and integrate with multiple destination categories.
What do you dislike about the product?
Should implement SSO login. Live debugger could be made more comprehensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting insights into the customer behaviour and co-relating those against product bugs.
Powerful, easy to setup analytics collector tool
What do you like best about the product?
- Extremely easy to setup and implement the SDK
- SDK documentation and support is excellent
- Largest range of integrations (destinations to pipe your data to)

What do you dislike about the product?
- Expensive, although the tool is critical for us, as an early stage startup, it still feels very expensive compared with other tools we use
- Customer support could be faster

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wanted to experiment with different analytics tools for our mobile application. Implementing segment gave us full control of our analytics data. Allowing us to store it in a data warehouse/lake but also feed it into a number of analytics tools, allowing us to assess a bunch of different tools but only having to integrate 1 SDK (Segments).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're an early-stage startup, definitely consider this as your first analytics tool to implement.
