One app can do so much
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use. The modelling flow chart to model process flow diagrammatically instead having to write line after line after line of code. I like how you can pretty much create any process type application for so many industries. I can see it being used in totally different industries from healthcare to education to inventory type systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
The one downside is that I have to learn a little bit of coding. The SAIL language is not too bad to learn, but it's a little confusing for non programmers. I don't like some of the restrictions put on the software, like only being able to have 5 menus on a webpage. But with a little creativity, I'm sure people will find workarounds.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I wasn't solving a problem with Appian. I was sent to a week long developer fundamentals class taught by Gabriel Salas. In that class we solved a problem for a car rental system. this system included maintenance scheduling, email notification, task assignment, process flow modelling, decision tree making. There was also another app that we used as a demo for a class training resource site and a doctors office, that is populated with doctors, nurses, prescription medication and patients. Patients will get automated e-mail notifications for appointments and they have their own portal so that they can set up an appointment time, pick the doctor they want and fill in form for their own diagnosis.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For non-coders, business people, they can help developers model the business processes in the same project or app. This does lift the burden a little bit off the developers. It is also suitable for performing the agile methodology with dev-ops, which seems to be the industry standard in rolling out software applications. It also has a robotics and automation component to it but we didn't demo it. Considering the competitors out there like pega, appian is very similar and the ease of use is quite good.

Appian is a great partner not just a vendor.
What do you like best about the product?
Their systems are written using the software they provide. Therefore no matter who you talk to at Appian - they all have had experience in the system. Everyone from the incident management to the higher-level representatives is always available when needed to work on or escalate issues. Education provided by the online learning center is free and quick digestible segments instead of large time-consuming training sessions. If I need to learn how to build a dynamic interface or develop an effective database. They do have a certification path if that is of interest to your team. They have a very nice community site that is also based on the product. Easy to navigate and search for helpful information. Incorporated into the community site is the app market that does boast numerous amount of plugins for Appian.
What do you dislike about the product?
The quarterly update is a bit excessive for my team's regression testing abilities. This requires more effort as we are moving into more processes developed requiring more time for regression testing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automation of manual processes that removes many emails and human errors. We initially converted our existing processes out of Oracle BPM and into Appian. We have expanded upon those applications and have created new applications to cover additional needs. While we did utilize a partner to help us begin our Appian journey - we are now doing all development in house.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
They are a great company to partner with. They do give a wealth of knowledge and they have a path to keep them successful in the BPM market.
Appian - A great product with minimal limitations
What do you like best about the product?
I love the quarterly upgrades, that enable Appian to be cutting edge. Constant platform improvements continue to allow us to provide the best product to our business partners.
What do you dislike about the product?
Reporting. Using the out of the box reporting functionality produces slow, inefficient reports. Developers must also become proficient in SQL to create views of data that the Appian reports can be produced from.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've built numerous custom applications on Appian, supporting multiple business unit. To name a few...Marketing, Compliance, Client Ops, Trade Ops and Creative Services. We have learned that we can manage the flow of work across departments, to allow them to focus on their core responsibilities, instead of getting caught up in process. We've also mitigated risks and ensured that necessary consent and acknowledgements are received.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a budget and robust managerial support you should be set. If you don't, you may struggle with building a satisfactory case from an ROI perspective. Critical Technology for your Digital Transformation
What do you like best about the product?
Appian is a low code, fully configurable, and saleable platform to automate even your most complex workflows. With knowledgeable industry professional consultants, you can confidently partner with Appian to roll-out the platform to your organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Important to understand it is not a no-code platform. They advertise as low-code so you still need your internal IT Team involved in your roll-out. This makes the platform highly configurable, scalable, and secure as a result.

Appian is streamlining many critical front and back-office functions including Client Onboarding.
Strongly recommend Appian

It has limitations as to some of the functionalities we need specific to our organization's needs and thus, we had to do a lot of manual work ie updating the database

A good platfor but dificult to start...
What do you like best about the product?

it is helping to plan and implement automation processing various departments
Recommendations to others considering the product:
