Centralized cost monitoring has reduced cloud spend and supports proactive budget control

What is our primary use case?

I have used Kion for one project with a duration of approximately one year. The customer wanted to monitor infrastructure spending and try to reduce costs. We centralized the infrastructure bills inside Kion so we could monitor everything in one place. We also set up alerts in case of budget overflow.

How has it helped my organization?

We reduced the time spent on monitoring the infrastructure. It helps significantly, though I don't have additional metrics to share.

What is most valuable?

In my experience, Kion is very intuitive and easy to use, allowing you to monitor everything in one place. Everything is monitored via dashboards, and you can also drill down on resources to gain more insights. Kion allows us to reduce infrastructure costs. We saw a spending reduction of 20%.

What needs improvement?

I think nine is a very good score. Ten, from my perspective, is perfection, and I believe Kion can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked in my field since 2017, so seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Kion has demonstrated no stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Kion is very scalable and easy to scale depending on the needs.

The customer support is very competent, always.

How was the initial setup?

If you need to monitor your infrastructure cost and make it simple, intuitive, and easy to set up, choose Kion.

What was our ROI?

Kion helps in reducing costs. We saw a spending reduction of 20%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think the price is worth it because Kion offers a lot to the customer.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My boss evaluated other options, but I don't remember which solutions.

What other advice do I have?

The alerts helped in identifying the most spending infrastructure pieces and raising alerts toward the business. I think Kion is a good tool, and the integration of agents will make it easier. I would not change anything about Kion as it has been a very cool experience. I would rate this review a 9.

Kion offer cloud enablement solutions that help us decommission over-provisioned & inactive resource

What do you like best about the product?
Kion provides excellent auto-detection of usage on a real-time basis & helps us reduce our monthly expenditures from on-demand instances.

Unlike other cloud management platforms, it doesn't include lock-in or upfront payments, which is quite convenient for us.

It offers extensive support to all three cloud service providers (AWS, Azure & GCP) for reducing cloud expenditures & reserved instance management.

From its Dashboard, we can gain clear visibility of the infrastructure across different environments about our instances & disk utilization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Going on with the Kion platform is almost free of risk & we can opt out of their services if we are unsatisfied.

We don't have to do anything much to get it running as Kion takes care of the underlying infrastructure & its renewals.

Since our AWS infrastructure is dynamic, we have to run large workloads & Kion aids us in having a better understanding & significant cost savings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Kion effectively prevents the tricky situation of cost overruns in our cloud platforms.

It helps with suitable cost-optimizing recommendations that enable us to identify potential opportunities to enforce our budget & save money.

Kion scans through our cloud environments accurately for over-provisioned and inactive resources & brings them to our attention. We can further dig in to evaluate the dependencies & handle decommission activities if it's not needed for our infrastructure.

Its customer support is very professional for onboarding on with their platform & it uses CloudFormation templates to perform hassle-free deployments in our AWS platform.

We can also generate cost-centric reports from the Kion platform to help visualize our financial management, budget constrains & suitable remediation strategies.

What do you like best about the product?
It integrates with all AWS accounts and all roles to select and hierarchy at Org or Divisions.

UX needs to be improved slightly to look and feel better.

What do you like best about the product?
Today, there are more than 50 employees in the Encamp organization and over 200 customers who rely on their premier technology and expert compliance services to automate and streamline environmental compliance. Encamp is the largest third-party filer of EPCRA Tier II reports. These reports, mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), legally require companies that store hazardous materials to submit an annual Tier II report. For each of those reports filed through Encamp, the company donates a tree to nonprofit organizations such as One Tree Planted, helping sequester carbon from the atmosphere and promote human and environmental health.
What do you dislike about the product?
As this is being a start-up, looking forward to see what features will they bring

“In our early days, many team members had high-level privileges, because we needed to move very, very quickly. But this starts becoming scary when you add more folks. So, we had this need to start building out a hierarchy of our organizational accounts within AWS. One of our initiatives was being more sophisticated about how we set up our organization in AWS and then controlling access to those environments. This included keeping track of configuration across accounts and making sure these accounts were configured consistently for our purposes. We also had to ensure we were monitoring accounts consistently from a security and compliance perspective,

What do you like best about the product?
I use Kion on a daily basis and love the ease that it allows me to manage multiple accounts. The controls that we can use via CloudRules and RBAC Roles help us limit access when needed, and also add important CloudFormation templates to our AWS environments. I also love the ease of integration between our Active Directory and how we can use security groups in AD to control access in Kion.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have found that navigating through the 'Organization' tab can be sometimes cumbersome and it is not always easy to find an account or OU that you are searching for. Even with the search bar on the left, clicking on a Parent OU won't reveal all of the accounts as there may be another OU layer between Parent OU and accounts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our most important need is to control access to our customers for their environments and allowing engineers with different roles to have different levels of access. Kion helps us accomplish this task seamlessly and even allows us to create customized roles when necessary to provide flexibility to our customers.

Kion allows customers to centralize financial reporting, compliance reporting, account/subscription access, and identity management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much, could use some work on scalability for very large enterprises.

What do you like best about the product?
Simple to use UI. Cloud Governance is easy to implement. Love the API first approach which helped us to develop custom automation processes for access managementment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need to improve the app performance further. Waiting for the event-driven architecture to better improve performance. Need better automation processes for budget management.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cloud governance, Access management, and budget management. It helps 1000+ users in our org to login into AWS accounts and perform their day-to-day actions. Also helps with account provisioning automation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Would strongly recommend to other users who are early in their cloud journey to adopt kion and build a cloud governance strategy for their organization.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the single dashboard to view multiple clouds. I am still very junior to Kion but I can see it being very useful across multiple clouds, Azure, AWS and Google. AWS IAM sounds like the best piece of Kion.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a little difficult to configure. And PAYG Azure subscriptions are not supported by Kion which makes demo of the product difficult.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Kion has been assisting some of STS customers and engaging with us to complete the setup.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Better documentation in the setup.
