Ubuntu is a solid free OS which suits most of the people
What do you like best about the product?
This is free, most of the apps that everybody uses daily are available for free too. The user interface and design are beautiful and easy start with. The font rendering is good. What I like is that a very advanced user (like a developper) or a grandma can use this same system. It can be setup very simply, with a few daily used softwares (for my grandma, skype, chrome, openoffice) or with a very complete setup (for me with docker, phpstorm, vagrant, etc...). I am using this system for 5 years and I never experienced any virus or malware issues, a bit the same as on a Mac, but for free. It can be customised as much as you want, I personally use the Unity Tweak Tool to load some Flat Design icons and to be able to customise my fonts colors, the sizes and this works very well. Coming from Windows, I can say that this OS is way more suited to developpers, the console is the default way of installing, updating and removing softwares. The file system is more staright forward. I noticed that there are are only a few issues of portability between Mac and Ubuntu.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some very specific softwares are not available on Ubuntu, things like audio softwares.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu provides a perfect solution for web developpers. Provides a professional environment to work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't use specific softwares (unavailable on Ubuntu) then don't hesitate, the system is powerful, stable and easy to use.

Easiest and most supported flavor
What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is supported with various images on Vagrant and AWS, which makes local/prod development easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's Linux, so the common annoyances are all there.

All my production sites run on Ubuntu. Open source is the way to go.

Review for Ubuntu
What do you like best about the product?
Customizability, ease of installation of packages, community support
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be hard to troubleshoot issues sometimes out of the box - usually requires additional setup to be able to properly diagnose. Open source also means if you're the first one to have a particular problem that there might not be support. Huge shift coming from windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Use for most linux servers which are the preferred server we use now.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Research the solutions you want to implement using Ubuntu and make sure they have good community support or even paid support (just in case!). Ubuntu has been a great linux platform for us.
Great OS for work and Personal use
What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy the bare bones aspect of this operating system. It does not have all the other junk software that is not needed. Also the ease of access tool being on the side is helpful for fast use. The names are always interesting like most Linux based OS's. As well I use Ubuntu at home for when i build systems to be able to easier setup everything Vs windows OS. Over all i strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoy Linux.
What do you dislike about the product?
some features would be nice to make commands easier to run as another user.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The fact of the sheer size of the OS shaves allot of time off over all installation and setup.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check into the specific version they offer to meet your specific needs.
Good OS
What do you like best about the product?
Well to be brutally honest, it is not the best in OSs, but still it manages to be the best in Open source OSs. The OS is comparable to MacOS or Windows in user experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
Bugs and a the UI. There should be good bug fixes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's open source and hence it's free. No need to pay extra for software!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Well the OS is really good
My experience with Ubuntu
What do you like best about the product?
It's fast, simple, Robust and it is free
What do you dislike about the product?
Little to no hardware support. The installation process is daunting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used it for coding (Java). NetBeans was run on it. The speed when compared to MS products and the reliability, quick startup, the simple interface were the positives. To the point simply put.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be prepared to do things by yourself (with help from Google)! Little to no support and not popular with common users. The initial few days of my experience with Ubuntu was full of trying to learn the basic stuff. One needs some time getting into the groove. Google was my only savior as most people go with the MS products. Once I got a grip on it, it was really an amazing experience. Definitely, has its advantages though, which is vast!
The best operating system
What do you like best about the product?
It mimics Apple's OS in look and feel, but without all of the related issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
You definitely need to have a solid understanding of filesystems and how to locate things - that was the largest barrier to entry for me. Once you develop this knowledge and learn to work a little at the command line, you're good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For digital forensics work, I use Ubuntu to run a bunch of open source software. Ubuntu definitely makes it easier to access and use these tools. I also used Ubuntu in my previous job to connect into the server in order to deposit files there for long-term storage. Ubuntu offers better security than other OSs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn some basic commands and get comfortable moving around the computer in a new way. User forums for Ubuntu are a *major* help whenever you're stuck, so just grab error messages and put them into Google and you should find a solution pretty quickly. Listservs and dedicated groups have also been a help when using specific tools - depends on your use case, but there are a lot of people in the open source community who are eager to help.
