The best desktop operative system to work and home

  • September 02, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu its a really good operative system, fast, stable and open source.
The Canonical company do a maintenance of Ubuntu which makes it like a business OS, at level of support and releases.
Also very interesting thing is that the amount of users that there are using Ubuntu, makes possible to have all typical programs compiled and packaged for Ubuntu
What do you dislike about the product?
In general it's everything ok, but there are some little things in the last versions, like the inclusion of advertising inside the system
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's our base system, we use for almost everything. It's stable and reliable.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is the best Linux distribution actually. Its fast, reliable and very easy to use. At difference of some years ago, there are drivers for all hardware

In my opinion Ubuntu is better than ever distribution, its stable, fast, and easy to use. The packages repository it's amazing, and whatever isn't in the repo it's package for ubuntu. Related with packages, the APT system it's very useful and easy to use, especially to update.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maybe in the last versions 16x and 17x the inclusion of UNITY for me was a total error, but they realize about and now Ubuntu use GNOME again.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's my principal OS for work, I use it everyday, to develop code, browse in the net and office tasks
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's the best option for desktop if you develop code and you need to run your cases frequently.

A refreshing change!

What do you like best about the product?
Where do I begin? Transformed my 6-year old laptop that was crawling under Windows to a snappy-fast machine. Linux has reached a stage where it is a serious operating system that caters to different users, from novice computer users to power users. The interface is very easy to understand, the system comes with Libre Office that is a worthy alternative to MS Windows, and much, much more. I was a Windows holdout for a long time. Really liked Windows 7. Skipped Windows 8. Loathed Windows 10. It seemed like my laptop had a mind of its own when running Windows. There was this feeling that my laptop was sneakily doing something behind my back. I felt that this version of Windows is just .... kludgy. And there ware the constant Windows updates.... After I got blue screens on multiple occasions, I realized it was time to move on. And I haven't looked back.

Ubuntu gave a new life to my old laptop. I am able to perform all tasks that I used to do on Windows without any issues. Most of the software packages are free. It is reassuring to know that you can take any old laptop and as long as you backup your files and the logic board is still alive and kicking, your computer will live on. Hard drive died? No problem, just install a new hard drive, reinstall Ubuntu for free, copy your files from your backup, and you are back on the road. While Macs do offer this feature, the hardware for Mac is still quite expensive. With Ubuntu, you can buy an old laptop and get yourself a decent performer for very little money.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support for Linux distros is not fully there yet. There still some areas where the interface is not as polished as, say, a Mac (document viewer comes to mind). Still, for what it is, the operating system is incredible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primary operating system, freed myself from the clutches of Windows.

    Computer Software

A good choice if you work in software industry.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If you don't like something is really easy to get your hands dirty and change whatever you want, easier than other Linux options in the command parts and you have more freedom than with Windows or Mac.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes you have to search for a long time in order to make something work because almost all software is prepared for mainstream solutions like Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We only use ubuntu to code because it seems to work better with low level code in C.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you work in the software industry you have heard of it, maybe this is the time to give it a try.

Free operating system

  • August 19, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part is that since it is based on Linux, it is a free operating system. For users who are not very familiar with Linux, it is ideal because it is very similar to Windows.

This operating system takes up very little space and manages processes more efficiently than Windows.

It has a large community behind it, always making improvements and updates daily.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downside is that most games or programs are not available for download on this operating system; you must download a program like Wine to be able to use software that you could install on Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is free, which saves money on purchasing a license. Also, most viruses do not affect this operating system as they are created for Windows.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend the use of Ubuntu not only for the price but for the freedom of having free software and being able to configure it to your liking.

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on my desktop two months back.

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Ubuntu 18.04 as my workstation, for the past sixty days and the operating system is working in perfect condition and, so far I have not faced any problem even after using it, for so many hours in a day.
The best thing I like about Ubuntu 18.04 is its software repository as it has all sorts of software available for developers as well as for graphic designers right from IDE's to Libra Office and the installation process for the software is quite easy. For music lovers, there is Rhythm box and, for capturing the screenshots there is Screenshot available.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only problem that, I don't like with this Linux operating system is its slowness, for starting, it takes quite some time to set itself for functioning properly and even for opening the browser like firefox it is quite slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a Web developer, I use atom for IDE and the browsers like Firefox and Chrome for testing the web pages and sometimes I use Inkscape, for graphics and for word processing I use Libra office and Tomboy. The greatest benefit of using Ubuntu 18.04, is its free software repository and it is quite useful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I will highly recommend Ubuntu 18.04 to others as its installation is quite easy and there are thousands of free software in its repository.

Openly available kernel.

Everything about it.

What do you dislike about the product?
For personal use, I'd still prefer the GUI and Ease of use of Windows. That is what I would teach my parents to use, not Ubuntu
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All of our processes are running on an AWS EC2 Ubuntu instance/

Benefits: Free.Community of developers and plethora of help resources available
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It indeed has a learning curve, but once you get to know how to become a power user, there is nothing quiet like it.

Ubuntu is the best desktop distribution

  • August 13, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is one of the distributions that is making the most effort because it is the desktop GNU / Linux distribution number one. Its constant updates and new features, its support, its stability, its graphical interface, more and more intuitive and careful, its graphic improvements. All this is getting more and more achieved for the end user, and that this, each time has fewer shortcomings since his arrival in Linux.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the latest versions of ubuntu, the UNITY desktop manager has been using, which I believe is not up to ubuntu, is slow, heavy and unfocused.
On the other hand, it gives me the impression that it is being sold in commercial interests
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
More than half of my users use it as a desktop operating system, with some great results. I also use it on some non-critical servers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the LTS versions, the last one ubuntu 18.04
