Ubuntu: An excellent alternative

  • July 04, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This operating system is free, portable and flexible to install. For instance, Ubuntu allows you to run the terminal on Windows, and it is easier and faster than other options I have tried for Linux on Windows. It is easy to run and get started. Futhermore, it ts lightweight.

You can customize the terminal.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although it is easy to install, it does not come installed on many devices as other operating systems.

If you do not have acces to a server, you need to download all the packages and features. This process is slow and it requires computer memory so it can be daunting. In this sense, there are major applications that are unvailable to use with the operating system.

It is very different from other operating systems, so you need time to learn how to use it. Futhermore, it can be frustrating to troubleshoot issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Ubuntu to do bioinformatics. Before I started using Ubuntu, I used one program to connect to the server and another program to download files from the server to my computer, which operating system is Windows. The benefit of Ububtu is that I don't need extra programs to work with the server in my computer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
My recommendation is that if you are looking for a Linux distributor try it. Use the support and the user community that will be your best tool to learn how to use it and how to resolve problems.

Ubuntu review

  • June 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like most is the ease with which it is possible to install in it, through 3 simple commands, the OpenStack virtualization suite and therefore to be able to quickly create your own self-service service for creating virtual machines in a similar way to that of the main cloud providers but with the ability to directly upload qcow2 images related to containers minimized in size and HW requirements.
What do you dislike about the product?
Keeping some packages updated is not always easy because sometimes the official repositories remove certain packages from the list of updates making it necessary to manually insert repositories other than the official ones or worse the installation from tarball.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu, in its server version or the one I mainly use, is truly powerful and with solid foundations able to guarantee continuous stability and reliability without sudden crashes and without particular maintenance or cleaning operations. It has a vastness of native packages to be able to work immediately with AI libraries such as TensorFlow, moreover, the native support for Python3 makes it an ideal operating system for those who need to create a multitude of servers or containers capable of running Python applications also in shared load mode.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
To avoid having to create and maintain multiple installations of Ubuntu I recommend, if it is appropriate for your use case, to create an OpenStack virtualizer with Ubuntu 18.04 and through it create all the "disposable" virtual machines with the same version of Ubuntu according to your needs, from OpenStack you can save snapshots to have machines pre-installed and configured at your convenience.

Linux based OS

  • June 25, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is an ideal Linux based operating system for multipurpose functions. It holds many softwares and some softwares are also mandatory for windows. It offers a wide range to connect to any type of IoT device in the world and can be raised to a great level with a little customization. It can be used as a server and workflow design can also be done in a good way.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a professional purpose operating system with almost every support. It has so many features that it is difficult to say what I like on it. The only thing that bothers me the most is the GUI services, as the GUI is built for easy workflows but at the time of customizing it is the Securities and Software installations and the code needed to do that work to uninstall will be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a good operating system for any type of work. It helps me in my analytics work and also supports server distribution for connecting client nodes and also provides me information of data nodes. I use it to deploy my projects and also help me in my presentation and office tasks. However it has a wide range of useful softwares and includes a lot of protection against the environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This would be beneficial and highly recommended for people in the system administrator area as all servers are on Linux based OSs that require some training and are used as servers without protection from viruses.

My Daily Runner For4 Years

  • June 19, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's free, open-source and is very secure compared to most of the other common operating systems.
Way less bloatware which makes my computer lightning fast.
I'm a web developer and setting up testing environments is relatively easy as most web hosting servers are structures similarly.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a large number of applications that are not compatible with the operating system. If you do a lot of graphic design, animation, and video editing using premium software, moving to Ubuntu might be challenging.
While it is a good operating system once in a while you'll encounter situations where you need to type commands for functions that require simple mouse clicks on other operating systems.
It's different from the more common OSs and getting used to it is a learning curve.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu allows me to continue using an old, low-spec laptop that would struggle running on the manufacturer-installed OS.
Ubuntu is great for web development as it allows me to set up local servers which are very similar to live web servers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you decide to go with Ubuntu I recommend you first research on whether your current computer hardware is supported, or if you are planning on buying a new computer, then buy one with Ubuntu preinstalled so that you know that you won't have any hardware compatibility issues.

Still, if I need to mention soomething is that sometimes it's a task to upgrade some softwares.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easily converting docs into pdf using Terminal.
Easy and fast download through CLI.

An interactive and easy to use linux based operating system.

  • June 16, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a Linux-based operating system to support all necessary Linux related functions as well as some Windows applications. It is an open source product that makes it easier to manage and enhance security with some customization. It has an e-mail servicing application in the form of Thunderbird for easy connection to email accounts. This GUI is interactive and easy to manage which makes it easy to find any software. It has a secure shell and provides many features for user support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some code is required to install or uninstall any software with ease of management and operation of the GUI. Even managing any connection it only needs to operate through the terminal. An additional software must be installed to take remote connections across devices. It has some extraordinary restrictions, some directories that frustrate users to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In my professional work it helps me with my documents and presentations, it is with Office, it has a cli application as a terminal, which helps to make any queries related to Linux easier and work which helps me to host, connect and manage my guest and client machines to server. This helps me to perform security checks with security analysis classes and find bugs on the network.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is the best known Linux based opensource operating system with enabled Linux features and software. It can be used for daily tasks just like windows as well as for testing vulnerabilities and network dependencies. It can host as a server and provide services to connect client machines with efficiency support.
