The defacto open-source linux distro

  • July 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Because it's so commonly used, there's loads of support out there (including tutorials), software addons, etc for many versions of Ubuntu. Over the years, Canonical have kept their promises in terms of keeping versions (particularly Long term support versions) in support and secure. If you are a GUI user, Ubuntu also has one of the more user-friendly and accessible interfaces of the Linux distros that I've come across.
What do you dislike about the product?
administering Ubuntu server via the command line can be frustrating - it's not the most user friendly or well thought through, even for experienced sysadmins. Generally speaking, it can be a bit heavier to run than certain other linux distributions, but in my opinion, the benefits far outweigh the downsides.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Development and production workloads, happy to be hosted on windows architecture via HyperV (or stuff like Oracle's VirtualBox), or in cloud environments such as AWS. Their long term support (LTS) distributions are suitable for enterprise grade applications in that, they are often patched for security etc. We've had very few critical issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Some understanding of Linux basics is essential if you're going for a non-GUI version, but generally, it is low risk to test then scale up.

Ubuntu Linux 20.4 LTS Review

  • July 25, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
First is, this is free and open source OS. Simple and light weight OS which is liked by developers, gamer, graphics designers, system engineers, etc.
I am also using Ubuntu as my main OS and this Ubuntu new version 20.04 LTS become more beautiful than 18.04. It has multiple color themes, and wallpapers. It is more attractive than the older one.
GNOME feature is become faster than the 18.04 (but little faster I felt), which is helping me to play the games and Virtual box operations. Same as all other versions It is also provided 5 years security and update service support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Based on the devices graphic drivers wont support all the time.
Needs to install dependencies/other libraries if we are going to editing SW, games, etc.
Most of the people are using Windows and if they are new to Ubuntu they feel difficult in installing and configuring the application as well as the OS.
Error solutions is hard to handle when comparing with other OS (other OS simply a mouse click - here a bunch of commands may required)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Web Server management (Not only web server it is easy to manage the servers)
Security scanning and security analysis. (Most of the tools are Linux oriented)
Cloud CLI is easy via Linux OS and virtual machines connectivity and operations. (quick connection establishment + feel like same PC)
As a DevOps easy to conduct our regular works. (restarting the servers, moving files local to remote, remote executions, multiple server handling)

My Ubuntu Experiences

  • July 16, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is really useful, especially since I am someone interested in software. Because it allows you to manage the resources and libraries you will use in the software you will make. At the same time, you work both from the console and includes side applications such as browsers. It is also useful for regular users of Ubuntu. Because usually viruses are not available in this operating system. For this reason, you do not need to use a virus program. Turning your computer on and off is also faster than other operating systems. Because the originally loaded runners and the memory used are very efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
The bad feature is that you need to know all the steps related to software or program installations and the helpful items that will go down. If it is missing, your transaction may be incomplete.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu allows me to make software more dominantly. It also allows me to make more efficient software because I can manage resources. An operating system that I usually use to produce software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are a user without much knowledge or knowledge of the software, you should be careful when using the command screen when using Ubuntu. Because there is no mechanism that prevents you from accessing the physical side of the computer, it may encounter big errors. You may cause the operating system of the computer to crash.

Ubuntu 20.04 | Too Heavy

  • July 14, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is free and fully customisable & very secure. one of the main things I love about Ubuntu is the fact it has been Open-Source throughout it's whole shelf life.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the new 20.04 update, I feel like Ubuntu is now system resource hungry. A little bit like Windows, whereas Kubuntu and Lubuntu are lighter versions.

5 years ago you could run Ubuntu on virtually any machine, and now even on a half decent machine it still manages to eat up all the processes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The installation time Is almost non-existent which improves productivity and workflow. Put Kubuntu & Ubuntu in-front of me and I will pick Kubuntu everytime.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a half decent system, go for it! I can highly recommend Ubuntu Server. But if you want a lighter version, try Lubuntu/Kubuntu.
