Excellent OS for developers
What do you like best about the product?
All current programming frameworks and libraries provide an Ubuntu package or installer, a real time saver when you depend on it and need it to "just work". Mostly everything works as expected, and when it doesn', online support from its users is more than enough to solve almost any problem. All hardware works out of the box on any new laptop, you can even unplug your harddrive and plug it in a different machine, chances are all hardware will be detected and autoconfigured.
What do you dislike about the product?
Probably a better out-of-the box GUI with more configuration options. For example, I´d like to see a dedicated "tiling window" mode.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Very cost effective, stable and trust worthy. Each new version has a very decent end of life deadlines, and updates are fast, incremental and of course free. Migrating from one machine to another
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If unsure, just give it a shot and try the live USB version first.
Ubuntu is a solid free OS which suits most of the people
What do you like best about the product?
This is free, most of the apps that everybody uses daily are available for free too. The user interface and design are beautiful and easy start with. The font rendering is good. What I like is that a very advanced user (like a developper) or a grandma can use this same system. It can be setup very simply, with a few daily used softwares (for my grandma, skype, chrome, openoffice) or with a very complete setup (for me with docker, phpstorm, vagrant, etc...). I am using this system for 5 years and I never experienced any virus or malware issues, a bit the same as on a Mac, but for free. It can be customised as much as you want, I personally use the Unity Tweak Tool to load some Flat Design icons and to be able to customise my fonts colors, the sizes and this works very well. Coming from Windows, I can say that this OS is way more suited to developpers, the console is the default way of installing, updating and removing softwares. The file system is more staright forward. I noticed that there are are only a few issues of portability between Mac and Ubuntu.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some very specific softwares are not available on Ubuntu, things like audio softwares.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu provides a perfect solution for web developpers. Provides a professional environment to work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't use specific softwares (unavailable on Ubuntu) then don't hesitate, the system is powerful, stable and easy to use.
The Most Accessible Linux Distro For All
What do you like best about the product?
If you are curious about Linux and not sure where to start, nothing is more accessible for beginners than Ubuntu. Marrying the UI beauty of "easier to use" OS like Mac and Windows with the Linux Kernel is exactly what you'll get here. Many users will feel right at home as soon as they reach the desktop and start working. Icons are big and beautiful, searching for files is easy to do and managing your experience is a breeze. The best part though is when you're ready to dig in deeper you can bring up the terminal and have at it. Constantly being updated and maintained and the user support on forums and such is incredible. You won't be let down!
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing is inherently wrong with Ubuntu. Again, you receive a beautiful Linux Distro with a myriad of functionality. The only thing that could possibly turn some people off is the lack of enterprise support. With that said, you probably won't run your backbone on Ubuntu and most likely use something like CentOS, Fedora and of course RedHat.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Normal productivity, web access, email, software development and databases.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Again, if you want to explore Linux and see what it's all about, this is the place to start. It's easy to install and there are tons of tutorials on Youtube you can follow on top of other lessons as well. Give it a go! You won't be disappointed.
Use this OS for specific tasks related to security and special programs.
What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is easier as ever to now install and configure. The continued improvements that are being made to make this a more useful platform. More adoption within organizations. Less vulnerability to malware and other threats the plague other platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
More emphasis on how this platform can be managed in the cloud. More applications that have cross-platform capabilities. Some items require a bit of a learning curve to complete.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This platform has a niche function for organizations looking at a locked down operating system. Some applications are better suited for a Linux based platform due to the security and less administrative overhead costs involved.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a shot.

Fast and Eficient
What do you like best about the product?
SO fast and smooth , you can connect to the internet with no issues and there are no installations , everything is preinstalled where its fast and efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dislike that not a lot of software can be used on the software, it is limited to a couple of applications
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Database management is so much easier to use in linux, using ubuntu gives it that extra push!
Ubuntu is amazing
What do you like best about the product?
I typically use the server version of Ubuntu, however I have also used the desktop version. Ubuntu is the industry leader in "common" Linux. It has the most support for the apps that are developed for the Linux world as well as a great user base and forum.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I don't agree with the release cycles for Ubuntu. Having the LTS branch does help, however if you require functionality from a non-LTS branch it can be difficult to get those features/fixes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Ubuntu primarily for docker containers and so far it has worked amazingly well.
