Noble Numbat: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Review
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is its blend of performance and usability. The new Flutter-based installer and GNOME 46 desktop make it user-friendly, while the Linux 6.8 kernel ensures robust performance and security. Plus, the long-term support until 2036 offers peace of mind for stability and updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
One downside of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is the reliance on Snap packages, which can be slower to launch compared to traditional DEB packages. Additionally, some users might find the frequent updates and changes in the GNOME desktop environment a bit overwhelming. However, these are minor issues in an otherwise solid release.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
From a Flutter developer’s perspective, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS addresses several key issues:
Development Environment: Ubuntu provides a stable and consistent environment, which is crucial for Flutter development. The new App Center makes it easy to install and manage development tools and dependencies.
Performance: The Linux 6.8 kernel enhances system performance, ensuring that your development environment runs smoothly, even when handling resource-intensive tasks like building and testing Flutter apps.
Security: With improved security features, including stricter controls on unprivileged user namespaces, Ubuntu helps protect your development environment from vulnerabilities, allowing you to focus on coding without worrying about security risks.
Long-Term Support: The LTS version guarantees updates and support until 2036, providing a reliable platform for long-term projects and reducing the need for frequent system upgrades.
These features collectively create a robust and efficient development environment, enabling you to build, test, and deploy Flutter applications with confidence.
