    Financial Services

a DBaaS with interesting functionalities for developers

  • October 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I liked the keyword search with fuzzy functionalities. I liked the interpolation in time series analysis. I liked the idea the information can be compared by mathematical vectors. I liked the traditional SQL interface. I appreciated how it is easy to do these tasks in the programmer point of view. I liked the idea of integration that this product seems to provide.
What do you dislike about the product?
I understood the product was built in particular for real time data processing and for data analysis (time series) . I did not understood if it can be used for others operations the companies usually are facing. For instance reporting production that have to satisfy particular templates or to be published in a distributed environment (es. Qlik, SAS,..). Data quality activities that implies data comparing and data correction.
I did not understood if the tool supports effectively the security/authorization issues that normally a big company has, for instance some office can see some data, other can not.
I fear the latencies due to newtwork infrastructure. How to handle with table with 60 million records?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I think the possibility to handle easly the situations with incomplete data is interesting

What do you like best about the product?
CrateDB gives me an option to handling large amounts of time series data and other structured data efficiently. The integration of this tools is quite easy to your production line. It also comes with pretty basic example of hands on experience in using this integrated tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think for those who has limited experience with database will require longer learning curve. The tutor was great, however I hope the after sales service would go along with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am doing a digital twin for various water distribution networks in the european and asian landscape where we utilize real time data from sensors. CrateDB helps me in handling large volumes of time-series data efficiently and in real-time. This is crucial for monitoring and managing complex water systems, as it allows for real-time data ingestion, analysis and scalability

Fast setup and simple UX

What do you like best about the product?
The onboarding process to create an account and get a cloud cluster running was very easy and fast. I also like how they use Postgresql under the hood so you dont have to learn a new language. Integratio via javascript and python with sqlalchemy makes it easy to test and deploy production applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Admin dashboard's UI can be improved. Also, there is currently no way to control the database sharding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CrateDB will play a key role in managing time series data for tracking energy consumption patterns in real-time for my Utilities client. In this use case, CrateDB allows me to store and analyze massive amounts of energy meter readings, taken at frequent intervals across various locations. Its ability to handle continuous streams of data and execute complex queries quickly ensures that I can provide real-time insights into consumption trends. This helps in optimizing energy usage, forecasting demand, and identifying inefficiencies, ultimately driving cost savings and operational improvements for the business.

CrateDB offers an excellent balance between SQL simplicity and the power of NoSQL scalability

  • October 24, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I find most valuable about CrateDB is its ability to handle massive datasets with impressive speed and efficiency. It seamlessly combines the ease of SQL with the scalability of NoSQL, making it perfect for real-time data analysis in scenarios like IoT or machine data projects. CrateDB’s flexibility to store and query structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, along with its high scalability and real-time processing capabilities, make it an excellent choice for applications needing fast, reliable, and scalable database solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
The project is still so young that still no real world stress test have been conducted on it. It takes some time for companies to migrate from their comfort zone on their heart of the system, database, to a new system. As a result, we still have to wait and see what happens. Also, some featuers such as a good extension system and implementation of basic algorithms like Approximate Nearest Neighbors are missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On the business side, due to similarity of cratedb syntax to postgresql, there is no need to hire a mongoDB expert to work on noSQL databases. Every database engineer with a basic knowledge of SQL can start to learn about cratedb and have the best of both worlds.

CrateDB, a name that we will hear more in the future

  • October 24, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For me, the fact that with CrateDB, we can use SQL while having the benefits of NoSQL and VectorDBs is the best. It is so easy to use, and with their built-in functions such as 'distance' or 'knn-match,' you can enjoy the process of data analysis. Considering that you can easily integrate different types of databases and data models is something that I have never seen before. To put it in a nutshell, RESPECT!
What do you dislike about the product?
We should be aware of how challenging the world of databases is, and I believe that CrateDB is just at the beginning of its journey. For me, one thing I didn't like was that it did not support using ORMs, and we had to write the queries completely as strings. So, I think if this feature, along with other features such as allowing developers to add their own add-ons and extensions, is added, CrateDB could become even better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For me, the problem that CrateDB will solve is that I can combine different types of data and have them all together in one database. So, I don't have to use multiple databases, and I can easily manage my data, analyze it, and use it for further steps such as Deep Learning and Machine Learning.
Another issue that CrateDB can resolve for me is its compatibility with Python, the language of AI, making it much easier to use. You don't have to switch between different languages and databases.

Many good technologies under one roof

  • October 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
A very good blend between SQL, NoSQL, Lucene, Vector, timeseries DB etc all under one roof. Performance is also fenomenal and it supports ANSI SQL
What do you dislike about the product?
of course there are a few compromises when trying to use such a broad spectrum of technologies, but they are pretty minor when copared to the advantages
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it i mainly as a time series database for near real-time analytics and there is a bunch of other applications connecting through it via SQL. Migration was very easy as integration with other applications was done through SQL so this was pretty much lift and shift from one DB to another but way more performant and enabling many more use cases. (not just SQL)

What do you like best about the product?
CrateDB showcased their product in different usecases, their SQL queries are very advanced and can solve many problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downsides of using CrateDB is the same downside as another other piece of software, they have unique functionality that can't be changed fast if needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CrateDB is a potential db for a RAG system in production.

A capable solution to consolidate your diverse data sources and fulfill analytics needs

  • September 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is scalable, flexible and fast. Its many capabilites makes it able to adapt to different company needs. There are options for different deployment setups (on premise, cloud, and in between)
What do you dislike about the product?
As with any tool, there are some aspects that only reveal themselves once you deep dive into the product. (But the company has e-learning options and qualified expert so I would not worry too much.)

I only had the opportunity to try CrateDB with a limited scope of time series data and text analysis using large language models. It would be exciting to see how it handles "live" deployment in a complex architecture and diverse business need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CrateDB enables consoidation and analysis of vast amounts of time series data with suitable performance.
