Sophos XG Review
What do you like best about the product?
Sophos Virtual Appliance is best for the company having a Virtualized environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sophos XG with the previous version is not segregated as other firewalls. Like DNAT, Signature-based enhanced web filtering is not in the previous version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPAM filtering of our exchange server.
Click and Go appliance, easy to manage for common administrator
What do you like best about the product?
Simple and easy to manage, even first time user can understand the menu and option quickly. On the other hand, this firewall got major update release recently which has rich additional features and surprisingly the old configuration can be carried out automatically.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the configuration are lost when you switch the firmware (it has 2 firmware partition by the way, active and previous) . So make sure you have the backup for both firmware version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Internet failover. With just several click i can setup failover and restore internet connectivity using 2-4 ISP quickly.

Log view is very helpful when troubleshooting.
What do you dislike about the product?
Installation/activation process sometimes is a bit slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Slow internet experience. Very efficient when inspecting traffic.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
From the options available in the market, Sophos XG firewalls are one of the most secure, reliable and easy to manage appliances.
I find Sophos XG Firewal standard and sufficient for mid-size businesses
What do you like best about the product?
I find the frequency of updates and ease of use of ease with web filter is quite appealing.
What do you dislike about the product?
i am a fan of firewalls that integrate Application ID filtering such as Palo Alto and Sophos XG Firewal is yet to match up, however it is still a work in progress and will get their soon.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are currently testing this firewall at our smaller offices and realized it is cheaper for the features available to use.

In terms of best bang for your buck, i do recommend and try out Sophos XG Firewal

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, I can cross train my fellow admins easily. The web console is intuitive for even the novice network admin. Easy to update and easy to deploy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Licensing can be a pain when you go through and RMA. That said the RMA process itself was painless.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
An easy to use interface for allowing remote VPN by individuals and protection that has been solid.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Find a good partner if you are an end user and they will get you exactly what you need. For the prices it only makes sense to just get the full protection they offer.
Works well, needs some improvement
We have been using the XG Firewall in AWS since April 2020 and found the Firewall was easy to deploy and works well. The Web Content filter works very well. We did use Heartbeat but the Firewall started blocking a server even though the Sophos Server agent reported ok. I reinstalled the agent and this resolved the issue. We also have this issue with on-premise Firewalls so this could be a issue with the XG overall and/or the Sophos Agent. Heartbeat is a great feature but Sophos needs to perfect false positives. I would have rated 5 stars if I was able to use Heartbeat.

I have used Sophos XG firewalls, APs, and REDs for 5 years
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of setup and ease of use that comes with Sophos XG Firewalls. From setting up business rules, Access Points, and Remote Ethernet Devices they all offer an ease of use that is unmatched by a competitor.
Also I love the Phishing emails. I have the ability to schedule Mock attacks on email users. If they click the link the email sends them to training. If not, they have the option to forward it. I make a contest out of this every month of users. I also like that Sophos seems to be transparent when things are awry.
Setting up new networks and Access Points are a breeze! Also Remote Ethernet Devices enable our multi-site facility to communicate with security and speed. I was able to get a new site up and running in not time last month with a new RED15.
I also have the ability to run many reports for our senior management. Reports that enable them to see what I do and break it down for them to understand how important the firewall is to our organization. This enables me to better serve our organization.

There are some items on my wish list for the XG firewalls.
I would like the ability to reboot an AP that is having issues. Also to reboot Remote Ethernet Devices if needed.
Some other issues are training or learning new things about the firewall. Some of the training is behind paywalls the last time I looked. I would love for there to be more training for us.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since COVID hit we needed the ability to work from home. Sophos XG Firewall offers a SSL VPN with our subscription. I was able to set that up to enable users to work remotely. They were able to get to the data they needed and most importantly the data was secure!
I also have the ability to block websites and apps as I see fit. Or i can block categories.
I setup a network at a new site in a matter of moments with the XG firewall and a Remote Ethernet Device. This was a simple setup and give me the ability to push all traffic through our main site with the REDs. We also have the ability to monitor traffic at remote sites.

Setup is a breeze. The rules are easy to setup for the firewall and setting up exteranl sites and users are easy to setup as well.

What do you like best about the product?
The layout and ease of navigation is very good.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some policies and features that need to be addressed on the command line especially for VOIP phones to work. The clustering can be a bit of a pain and you don't really know what's going on from the onscreen messages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was trying to increase my customers security posture by having point solutions that talk to each other.

Great for small to medium organisation with comprehensive security features but has the capabilities for large enterprises
