Why we chose GitLab and never looked back
What do you like best about the product?
With GitLab we didn't just store our source code. we also used it as our main CI/CD system.
Once we started using it we didn't look back.
Creating pipeline is easy, building docker images, storing them with release tags, integrating with Cloud provider such as AWS, to quickly launch runners with different instance types for different GitLab jobs.
All of those just work.
Creating a GitLab CI Template allowed us to run multiple projects pipelines from a single pipeline code (gitlab-ci.yml)
Integration with Kubernetes (EKS) allows us to quickly deploy our code.
Deploying code using the built in SECRETS helps to keep our source code secure.
Building and storing Artifacts is very simple to do.
Ease of use: from the time we started with GitLab and explained other teams how to use it, they just did it.
Simplicity is the main key, but when we needed to build some complex CI, it was also possible to do without too much effort.
Once we started using it we didn't look back.

What do you dislike about the product?
GitLab is not like Jenkins.
For example it is not possible to create a scheduled job which has a drop down menu for variables.
That is definitely a feature we would love to have on GitLab.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A few years a go i had to migrate a 3rd party product into the company: take the source code, build and deploy it as a new apps.
In order to do that i tried Gitlab for the first time.
The problem i had at the time was multiple source code repositories, without any CI code and no deployment flow that needed to be created.
The source code also had Tokens and other information that should have not be there.
After cleaning those, i created the GitLab repositories and started to work on the CI/CD.
In just a few days i had 4 new microservices running as docker containers on ECS.
As a DevOps Engineer, i managed to save a lot of time, while creating an easy to understand CI/CD Flow.
That solved the "how to build and deploy microservices? " question for me, and opened the way for other teams to start using GitLab and Docker every day.

A Wonderful tool for your Digital Transformation
What do you like best about the product?
This is the tool for CI/CI,building boards and tracking issues from start to finish. I have used it to help diagnose work fatigue and help our colleagues determine the velocity of work. It makes commits and changes easy. I wouldn't leave home without it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Jumping into the tool requires some basic training. In our world of operations, it took a few weeks for people to understand the flow of the tool. They have a lot of great documentation on their website to help through this though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are now making work visible and we are able to review code at a much faster rate. It has increased the disciplines of review and knowing our automated processes.

What do you like best about the product?
I really like GitLab because it makes Git more understandable. There is a really nice user interface to configure, analyze and control your Git repositories on a server. GitLab allows you to restrict user permissions, so you can control who is able to see your repositories or who is allowed to change the repositories. Furthermore your can use automatic compilation, CI/CD and a lot of other tools.This is also very interesting for companies.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is no open-source software, so some features only available if you pay for it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use GitLab to manage the Git repositories on a Git server and control the access to it.

Its code review process provides the developer to keep 4 eyes policy which helps to deliver quality code in the production.

There are roles and policies missing from bigger enterprise perspective.

We are solving Gitlab for the source code repository and utilizing it for our CI/CD stack.

Its a very reliable tool for CI-CD stack. i would highly recommend it.
Collaboration with the entire project team is easy, excellent version. All the tools are available.
What do you like best about the product?
GitLab does a great job at creating a experience for newly developers. We previously had several best-of solutions, co-exist between our team, but we managed to consolidate this into a single solutions, which meets most of our needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Just the UI can be difficult at times when first understanding how to use it and the other is aspect I find annoying is user management right now, otherwise all the things are good to me.

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing that I like about GitLab is that it's ability to be deployed as a separate instance inside a company's firewall along with the simplicity to use, maintain and deploy. This simply provides a greater control and ensures the security.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some features like the ssh key integrations and other 3rd party integrations can be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use a custom instance of GitLab inside the company firewall for maintaining our entire codebase. This gives us the 100% control over the application.

If you are looking for a secure, agile ,custom deployable SCM solution for Enterprise applications, this is the one for you!
Easy to use!
What do you like best about the product?
I love the interface GitLab has and I love the fact that it's extremely easy and intuitive to use. I've used GitHub and always had trouble understanding where to go and how some things work. GitLab is so damn easy to use. I believe anyone can get started in a very short amount of time. Having CI/CD as a part just simplifies things further.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wished CI was easier to set-up. There is a very detailed set of instructions of how to, but as a beginner I have had trouble following it and wish it was a bit easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm fairly new to GitLab but it has made me work faster. It's very easy to use and that adds a lot to productivity and speed.

What do you like best about the product?
GitLab offers a lot more functionalities than GitHub. There is built in Continuous Integration as well as more available project metrics and data. Review Apps is something that sets GitLab apart. With RAs, you can test out changes in a separate mirror without merging to the master. This is crucial when making large overhauls or comparison between the existing and edited app.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a bit weird to transition from GitHub to GitLab, especially since the interface is so different, but the experience is still user-friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used GitLab as a part of a open-source coding competition. It was just a fresher way to manage a repository and overall greater than GitHub.

The UI is better and CI/CD is way more robust. GitLab has also got a great working culture ("remote is the future of work" for sure!) and a very strong brand, and good communication and presence on various platforms.

Nothing, I can't really complain. Maybe they could have a Windows installer?

Sometimes as many other services, errors can happen (maybe a short downtime or so) and sometimes it's hard to figure out if its something related to your or Gitlab.
I would love to see some improvement in error reports.
