Advantages and limitations of Gitlab , from my perspective.

  • February 09, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Githab provides us with a code quality function. With this tool, we get to analyze the quality of our source code. Ensuring that they are kept simple , easy to maintain and readable .
What do you dislike about the product?
Gitlab lacks adequate analytical functionality for pipeline tracking, meaning that it does not have robust tools for tracking the progress of our software development pipeline. This makes it tedious for my team to get a comprehensive overview of our development process, monitor performances , and make data-driven decisions. However, it's worth noting that GitLab has been constantly improving its features in this aspect. Nevertheless, it is still lacking compared to other specialized tools that are specifically designed for pipeline tracking and analytics.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Github's ability to automate entire continuous integration and continuous deployment ( CI/CD ) workflow , is unmatched by any other Git platform. By automating our entire CI/CD workflow, we are successfully creating secure code releases, better implementing guardrails to safeguard our deployments and deploying our applications across multiple and diverse cloud infrastructure.

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- configuring CI/CD pipelines
- merge request UI preview of differences and option to comment and suggest code changes
- basic cherry-pick functionality
- web IDE to modify a project
What do you dislike about the product?
- when cherry-picking no option to resolve conflicts, so cherry-picking "fails"
- better UI for an advanced search like an easier way to set a path
- searching in all projects in group doesn't work as expected
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- automation of building and testing projects
- version control of released projects and easy access to code
- triggering pipelines for projects depending on other projects
- ensure code quality by creating code review process

What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful features according to me include -

- GitLab offers a full-featured Git repository with features like branching, merging, and pull requests.

Git provides built-in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines that can be easily set up and managed.

GitLab offers a range of project management tools, including issue tracking, milestone tracking, and a kanban board, to help teams stay organized and on track.

Collaboration: GitLab offers a range of collaboration features, including merge requests, wikis, and comment threads, to help teams work together more effectively.
What do you dislike about the product?
Like any software,GitLab also has some drawbacks or cons that users may experience, including:

-GitLab has a large feature set, which can make it difficult for users to navigate and understand all its capabilities.

-GitLab can be resource-intensive, which can result in slower performance and longer wait times, especially for larger projects and teams.

-While GitLab offers a free version, many of its most advanced features are only available in paid versions, which can be expensive for some organizations.

-As teams and projects grow, GitLab may struggle to scale effectively, which can result in slowdowns and other performance issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitLab solves several problems that software development teams and organizations face, which includes increased collaboration, since it offers a range of collaboration features, including merge requests, wikis, and comment threads, to help teams work together more effectively. This is what helped me greatly along with highly efficient CI/CD functionality.

An Amazing Collaborative Code Development Tool To Our Toolset

  • January 10, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Within the free tier, there is a lot of storage capacity and has user-friendly UI. It allows collaboration while boosting productivity and cutting business costs. If any errors, bringing the team together for one project is really helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Analytics should be on dashboards. More thorough documentation for several features would be beneficial like the documentation of CI features need some improvement. SLA tracking requires more precise features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me in automating the build with no versioning issues. Planning tools including issues, task lists, project assignees, and time tracking available to help us to manage projects more quickly and effectively. It provides more secured branches and merges request approvals, merges request drafts, and push request rules.

The best open source code repository platform

  • January 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
GitLab is a very lite repository management tool that doesn't require a high-spec system, and it also contains DevOps workflows and CI/CD tools built-in without any extra manual integration
What do you dislike about the product?
If any experienced ones use GitLab, some terminologies are different compared to GitHub and Bitbucket, which might make them seem like an alien language. As it is free and open-source, there are many bugs that makes the user experience sloppy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitLab helps with providing code repository services and collaboration with team members. As it is an open-source platform, we have an excellent open-source community that helps us in critical times.
