Alerting and metrics improve monitoring efficiency while pricing presents challenges

  • August 07, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

The primary purposes for which Datadog is used include infrastructure monitoring and application monitoring.

The main use case for Datadog integration capabilities is to monitor workloads in public cloud, and those public cloud integrations that reached the public cloud metric natively were helpful or critical for us. We are not using Datadog for AI-driven data analysis tasks, but more cloud-native and vendor-native tools at the moment, and at the time when I was still in my last employer, we didn't use Datadog for the AI piece at all.

What is most valuable?

I find alerting and metrics to be the most effective features of Datadog for system monitoring. It was still cheaper to run Datadog than other alternatives, so the running costs were cheaper because it was SaaS and quite easy to use.

Datadog is only available in SaaS.

What needs improvement?

The pricing nowadays is quite complex.

In future updates, I would like to see AI features included in Datadog for monitoring AI spend and usage to make the product more versatile and appealing for the customer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Datadog since 2014.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

There were no problems with the deployment of Datadog.

The deployment of Datadog just took a few hours.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The challenges I encountered while using Datadog were in the early days when the product was missing the ability to monitor Kubernetes and similar features, but they have since added those features. At the moment, I don't think there are too many challenges that I am worrying about.

How was the initial setup?

One person is enough to do the installation.

What other advice do I have?

I am not working with any of these solutions currently because I'm on sabbatical, but I used to work with Datadog six months ago, and now at the moment I'm on sabbatical.

We were using the tools that AWS and Azure came with natively to monitor the AI workflows on their platforms.

I used to work as the CTO at Northcloud, but I no longer work there.

On a scale of one to ten, I rate Datadog an eight out of ten.

What do you like best about the product?
Its unified in visibility across the whole tech stack
Its seamless in log management.
Has customized dashboards for better support.
What do you dislike about the product?
very expensive to use.
its cluttered when dealing with bulky data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datadog allows servers, databases, and many other tools and services to be monitored across the IT landscape in real time. It will enable one to see the performance of applications and identify problems from a business perspective before they reach the user.

Great experience

  • July 31, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Datadog brings everything—logs, metrics, and traces—into one place. It makes spotting and fixing issues really simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit complex to set up and tune initially.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datadog helps solve the problem of not having full visibility into how applications are performing across services and infrastructure.
For APM, it shows real-time traces, bottlenecks, and error rates, which helps quickly identify and fix performance issues—saving time and improving user experience.

Reliable monitoring with deep insights and great integrations

  • July 30, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog provides real-time visibility into infrastructure and application performance with intuitive dashboards and robust alerting. I love how easy it is to set up monitors and correlate metrics, logs, and traces all in one place. The out-of-the-box integrations with AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes are a huge plus and save a lot of setup time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing can ramp up quickly, especially when enabling multiple features like log management, APM, and custom metrics. The UI can feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially for new users. Some configuration options require going deep into documentation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datadog helps us monitor distributed systems across our cloud infrastructure and microservices. It allows our team to identify bottlenecks, debug production issues faster, and ensure uptime through real-time alerts. By having logs, metrics, and traces in a single platform, we reduce context switching and can resolve incidents quicker, ultimately improving reliability and reducing downtime.

Powerful tool!

  • July 29, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog is a powerful observability tool that brings metrics, logs, traces, and more into a single, easy-to-use platform. What I really like is how quickly you can get visibility across your entire stack—especially in dynamic cloud and Kubernetes environments—and the dashboards are both beautiful and practical. It’s reliable and flexible
What do you dislike about the product?
it can get expensive fast if you’re not careful with what you ingest or retain. Some of the advanced features take time to master, and alert tuning needs discipline to avoid noise. Still, for modern infrastructure, it’s one of the best tools out there.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datadog helps solve the problem of fragmented monitoring by centralizing logs, metrics, traces, and real-time alerts into a single platform. Instead of jumping between multiple tools to troubleshoot issues or understand performance, we get a unified view of our infrastructure, applications, and user experience. This has made our incident response much faster and more informed, since we can quickly correlate spikes or failures across layers—from code to container to cloud service. It also helps us catch issues proactively through anomaly detection and automated alerts, improving reliability and reducing downtime.
