An affordable solution, but UI features need improvement

  • May 29, 2023

We use the solution to run a few applications.

I have been using the solution since 2022.

I rate the solution's stability a six out of ten.

I rate the solution's scalability a five out of ten.

Has an inbuilt antivirus in place, but needs to work on making the updates more user-friendly

  • May 29, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I deployed the solution for some of the end users. I also use it for communication purposes and run different pieces of software on it.

What is most valuable?

With Windows 10, unlike the earlier versions, you have Defender, which is an added advantage. You don't have to go for an antivirus solution separately since it is inbuilt and works. Also, since one can manage networks or domains, it's easier to manage clients.

What needs improvement?

The solution's updates are an area where the solution needs to improve. The updates are a painful thing at times because they are done without testing before the releases. I have to block the updates and Windows patches.

Speaking about the features I want to see in the future, right now, the updates which are on Windows are not deleted. It occupies a huge space in terms of GB unless manually removed from the system. They used to remove the older versions, which were not applicable, but now this is not happening. It just occupies space in the system.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution since its launch.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten since sometimes it causes some trouble.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's quite okay with upgrades, but otherwise, it automatically slows down the machine. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten. We use Windows 10 on a daily basis in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

Some of the logs we sent were accepted, while others do not identify the actual issue or agree with the issue. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used some other solutions, and I switched to Windows 10 because of the Microsoft's input.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was okay. The deployment is fine. As long as you have an image, it can be done at a fast pace. The deployment can be done in thirty minutes to an hour.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

On a scale of one to ten, where one is the lowest price possible and ten is the highest, I rate its pricing five since it's quite overpriced.

What other advice do I have?

I would urge others planning to use the solution to watch out for problems. With every update, there's something that is coming into its bundle, and as you analyze, it becomes difficult to run a larger number of operations.

The updates are not user-friendly because they do not show that they will not be removed from the system automatically like the previous versions of Windows. It has to be done manually. The space it occupies is too much, especially in terms of GB.

I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.

I would rate the solution's stability an eight out of ten since we encountered some bugs and glitches.

The product is scalable and I would rate it a nine out of ten.

The support works pretty fast.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Windows 7 before.

User-friendly, runs on multiple PCs and local support is easy to find

  • May 29, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use the built-in features of the solution. I utilize the resources to simulate different types of labs. Virtualization is another primary use case.

What is most valuable?

The built-in Recorder helps record and store sessions that can be used afterward. The product is more user-friendly than its competitors, like Linux.

What needs improvement?

The updates keep coming in, and the frequency of Windows Updates can be reduced. Sometimes there are bugs. This makes some features not work correctly. Applications in Windows 10 also hang sometimes.

In the future, they should check thoroughly for bugs before releasing the update.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. The updates and patch management need to be improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a nine out of ten.

85% of my bank uses it.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate technical support a seven out of ten. Sometimes we take help directly from Microsoft, otherwise from local vendors. It takes a long time for a ticket to get processed.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is quite simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is reasonably priced; it's neither too high nor too low.

What other advice do I have?

One licensed Windows 10 product can be obtained for multiple PCs; this is a significant advantage over competitors.

I would overall rate this product a ten out of ten. This is mainly due to its superior user-friendliness. For Windows 10, local support can be found easily in my area, which is another reason for my rating.

It's ubiquitous, so everyone can use it

  • May 26, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Windows 10 as a client to run all the software we develop in-house. It is a development platform for the software we're developing here. We also use it for web and email.

What is most valuable?

Windows 10 is ubiquitous, so everyone knows how to use it.

What needs improvement?

I would like the updates to be less intrusive. It would be great if Windows could update without restarting. They've made some improvements in that regard, but there is still some room to do better. I would still like monthly updates, but it would be nice if I didn't need to tell everyone to log out and save their work because their computer needs to be rebooted.

I could also do without the advertising and notifications in the default browser. It's annoying. One of the first changes we make is to switch off those extra distractions that it tries to put in there.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Windows 10 since it came out.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up Windows is straightforward. We usually buy it preloaded, so there isn't much to do.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Windows 10 is included with the computers we buy, so I'm unsure how that breaks down. When I worked for an OEM years ago, I know that OEM licenses were quite cheap, but I don't know if that has changed since then.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Windows 10 nine out of 10. My suggestion to people who plan to use Windows 10 is to disable all the notifications and advertising that are enabled by default, like the news, weather, etc.

Windows 10 can be used for admin tasks, developing, gaming, etc.

What is most valuable?

Windows 10's operating system is quite popular. Windows 10 is easy to use with a good user interface.

What needs improvement?

I would like to get less frequent updates from Windows 10.

I have been using Windows 10 for 18 to 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Windows 10 an eight out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Windows 10 is a scalable solution. Approximately 50 to 60 users are using the software in our company.

How was the initial setup?

Windows 10 has an easy setup.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment of Windows 10 takes about 20 minutes. The solution can be deployed on the cloud and on-prem as well. One or two people are required for the maintenance of the solution.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate Windows 10 a nine out of ten.

There are many ways to find files and programs, but it should have more native compatibility with Linux applications

  • May 25, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Windows 10 to run various applications. Most of our applications are web-based. We have very few client-server applications.

What is most valuable?

For the most part, Windows 10 is the same as earlier versions of the operating system, but there are more ways to find files and programs. It's user-friendly.

What needs improvement?

Windows 10 could be more compatible with Linux-based programs. We would prefer to use Linux, but we need human support. Our leaders decided to go that way. They prefer to pay more for Microsoft because they believe it offers a better value.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Windows 10 for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Windows 10 is stable. I have only gotten a blue screen one or two times. It's rare.

How was the initial setup?

Installing Windows 10 is straightforward because we've used the other Windows operating systems, so it isn't hard for our engineers to configure the machines.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Windows 10 seven out of 10. Other operating systems are excellent but harder to use.
