My experience on using the AWS S3 Objects to Alation
What do you like best about the product?
Integrating AWS S3 Objects with Alation proved to be a valuable addition to our data ecosystem. It streamlined the process of discovering and understanding data stored in our S3 buckets, fostering better collaboration and enabling more efficient data analysis within our organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the challenges I faced was the lack of real-time data synchronization between AWS S3 Objects and Alation. Although Alation performed an initial scan and cataloged the metadata of the objects in the S3 bucket, it did not automatically update the catalog when new files were added or existing files were modified within the bucket.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a data analyst at a large company, I was tasked with integrating AWS S3 Objects with Alation, our data catalog system. This integration allowed our company to easily discover, understand, and collaborate on the data stored in our S3 buckets.
Easy to learn and integrate
What do you like best about the product?
Fast turnaround on learning how to use this and deploy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I found the calls to make to get this to work was easy, documentation and samples were provided with a clear path to get this deployed in the live field.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A fast solution to a requirement to grab AWS S3 objects from the cloud and pull into local systems.
Quickly importing S3 objects to alation
What do you like best about the product?
We can directly use AWS lambda functions to import S3 objects to alation. Although it supports all types but CSV, json, XML, etc can be directly imported i.e. special parsing support is Given by AWS for these.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is billable and must require some AWS knowledge along with some programming knowledge for creating AWS lambda functions so that they can put S3 objects to alation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To be precise u don't have to directly use S3 to access objects now, rather just call the AWS lambda created and it will do the job.
Seamless migration pipeline
What do you like best about the product?
It creates a catalogue in alation, quite easy to start migration objects to alation.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need complete knowledge around environment and technical details.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
s3 mainly is used for live objects storage and not for long term storage of data.
AWS S3 Bucket

Flexbilidad de acceso y gestion del bucket
What do you dislike about the product?
No he encontrado nada que me disguste. Quizas el precio
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Capacidad de intergrar por APIS un repositorio alterno para datos
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Integrarlo con APis y automatizarlo con AWS CLI
Delightful migration experience
What do you like best about the product?
The process to import the data is quite easy from reading the available docs you can start to move your data to Alation.
What do you dislike about the product?
From a user with a non-technical background in cloud/tech/ it might be difficult to get started with the migration process
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Move our company data in order to perform analysis of this data, this integration allow us to move the data more easily into Alation
Ease of access to a techi
What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to setup if you are aware about the AWS environment. The best features is you can use AWS console to directly access all the features and set it up.
This is also cheaper option when comes to storing of archive data.
This is also cheaper option when comes to storing of archive data.
What do you dislike about the product?
As I have given the title ease of access for a techi but if a non technical person is starting to use this there might be some difficulty to him for understanding all the environmental.
So choose wisely as per your need and knowledge.
So choose wisely as per your need and knowledge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As current time is all about data, so this feature of AWS helps to store the data with High Availability, whenever you required you can access it and analyze it.
We had very large amount of data which we storing at S3 for archival.

S3
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to store objects, find it cheaper and quick to fetch objects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Overhead is more and lookup always downloads the file
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using for storing our files
Easy to set up and use
What do you like best about the product?
It's pretty easy to set up the service and to use. Moreover, its integration with other services is pretty straightforward (e.g. lambda, sns, sqs, etc.) and it can be triggered based on different type of events such as creation and deletion of files.
What do you dislike about the product?
I believe the trigger rules could be even more versatile, such as easier to trigger when a specific type of file is created inside a specific folder for example.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use S3 mainly to store raw data that needs to be accessible for processing (aka hot storage). Once the date is no longer needed or will not be used in the upcoming months, I send it to cold storage.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you do your research before setting up and connecting S3 with other services. Set up a simple integration test to make sure it works as expected.
