Enhance your quality of service

  • January 15, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace monitors 100% of our incoming transactions. It can give access to overall and global indicators (general application health) as well as very specific information (value of a cookie given to a specific user).
It brings light where we were blind: we are able to measure transaction count, response time and errors.
Dynatrace is used by several IT services: production, software engineer, SLA, Customer Relationship, ...
What do you dislike about the product?
The client is not really user friendly. But the efforts made to migrate from a heavy client to a web interface are starting to pay.
The automated exports are quite ugly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Incident diagnostic: Helps finding the tiers that is causing the degradation
Performance optimization: Helps finding the slowest transactions, to optimize them and get great results immediatly.
Trends: Avoid customer insatisfaction by acting before a performance degradation becomes a incident.

AppMon review

  • January 12, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
After having used AppMon since almost its initial release some like 10 years ago I am still amazed by its future-proof and rock-solid design to this day. Being the "older brother" of today's cloud-native "Dynatrace SaaS/Managed" solution (initially called "Ruxit") it has still many unique features and advantages to offer. First and foremost I value very much being in control over what is being measured and for what purpose. AppMon gives you a staggering amount of control and flexibility to analyze what your code is doing "in the wild" and I like to think of it as the swiss army knife of Application Performance Management. With its highly customizable integration options and extensibility using a REST API as well as a powerful plugin architecture there is almost no goal that can't be accomplished, no matter how complex or outlandish your problem might be. And last but not least for me it has been a learning tool of tremendous value over the years as it allowed me to "see the truth" of what was actually happening on our infrastructure - which more often than not was quite far from what one would imagine or what was initially designed... I learned about hidden problem patterns, coding blunders and deeply rooted systemic and/or architectural flaws. which would have gone completely undetected until it was too late if it wasn't for the level of early insight provided by AppMon.

One other area where AppMon shines is in test automation and integration and its unique capabilities in providing accurate early warnings in your build & deployment pipelines when architectural or performance regressions are detected during your automated tests.

AppMon has delivered a proven track record of being a very stable solution with negligible impact on the monitored components.
What do you dislike about the product?
The sheer flexibility of the tool might be somewhat intimidating to new users and learning to understand the core concepts like custom dashboards, business transactions, purepaths and user experience management is very important but certainly no easy task, especially if one has no previous background in application development.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
AppMon has dramatically reduced the number of "war room" type situations and helped a lot to establish the basis for DevOps as it has eliminated the technical and mindset "silos" which have grown over many years. For the management it is providing high-confidence application health and performance data which is used to evaluate SLA's against.
AppMon keeps providing valuable data very successfully, especially as we are able to analyze longer time scales allowing us to detect slow-evolving but potentially dangerous trends.
Through the extensive use of REST API's and custom plugins we are able to fulfill almost every (un)imaginable integration requirement being thrown at us.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Providing a bullet-proof case for a positive ROI can be painfully difficult, therefore it might take some careful planning and determination to convince your CTO/CEO to make an investment into the tool. If you suffered a lot from well documented major incidents and war rooms you should use that information to make a strong, data-driven case.

Great Tool for Performance Monitoring

  • January 12, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace is a great tool to debug the issues and performance and easy to integrate with all the performance testing tools and CI/CD tools.
Has very good dashboard list to represent the metrics. Dynatrace saves a lot of time in determining what is the likely cause of an issue/bottleneck an end user maybe experiencing. The PurePath technology helps to trace flow of a transaction in the application and is the basis for top down analysis, which tells how an application or transaction is impacted by the underlying infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not concerns
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Load testing resulted high response time, when track down at granular level using
pure path technology , it pin-points the SQL Query was responsible for taking loner time to execute , when concurrent users in the system . After fixing this issue Performance improved a lot better and able to upgrade.

Dynatrace Quick Review

  • January 10, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a good compliment to infrastructure or device level monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still have some questions on how quickly is it to set up and on how easy is it really to navigate and use out of the box with little or now training.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want to be more proactive in detection of possible application problems that are not detectable through standard IT infrastructure monitoring tools.

Appmon is Able to Find Deep Issues

  • January 09, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace Appmon does a great job at finding deep rooted issues with code or systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setup takes a considerable amount of time to instrument. Their new product (Managed) makes it a little easier as it only takes one instrumentation to cover all applications on the system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were able to find inefficient code, slow response, etc. within our applications, making it easier to find root cause
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Dynatrace is top of the line when it comes to forward looking companies.

Application Performance Optimization

  • January 09, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace provides the end user experience in using an application, and you can check it in real time. You can use more Dynatrace product and integrating them in order to follow every steps of a navigation and optimize them.
After it configuration and customization it is very stable, and it is possibile to check dashboards and receive alerts for anomalies. This last feature is great and it can be configured to meet different requirements.
What do you dislike about the product?
The license pricing is a bit too high, but quality has its price...
Dashboard management from webUI can be deeper and faster.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dynatrace allows to detect issues proactively and work them before they impact, in this way we reduced penalties due to incidents.
It is not difficult to check all systems status through dashboards: they are very powerful and customizable. They are the main resource to detect anomaly for our Control Room.
Moreover the Hotspots feature allows our company to improve the Application Performance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Free trial is a nice opportunity, you won't be back.

No more blackbox...

  • January 08, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
dynaTrace sheds a light on live running code which would otherwise be a black box to us. This is tantamount to incident/problem resolution.

Real user monitoring is also very important to us since it shows us what the customer experience is and can highlight issues like certain pieces of static content taking a long time to download

dt managed - understanding dependencies and providing full stack view (apart from deep network switch view)

Stitching of purepaths together between teirs
What do you dislike about the product?
dt managed - Difficulty finding good technical resources/documentation/best practices on dynaTrace managed

dt managed - Demo dt Managed environment made unavailable for customers

dt managed - Inability to run DT managed server/SG components under a non-priveleged linux user

Slow turn around on support queries. Have had a couple of support tickets not read properly by in

Inability to elegantly handle application alerting on the basis of an individual team (for application originating alerts, not infra)

Appmon - complicated/confusing ways of expose measures.

Appmon - Traffic light graphing based on measures is confusing at first
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to expose business transactions from live running code and graph results then share out dashboards to business stakeholders

Ability to reduce overall customer login times into the system

Significant reduction in Mean time to recover during incidents/problems

Ability to monitor new business features introduced into the application.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
dynaTrace is a 'no-brainer'. Look at the magic quadrants in APM for the past 8-9 years.

Dynatrace AppMon Application Performance Monitoring

  • January 08, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Granularity of data that Dynatrace is able to provide is extremely valuable and allows developers to track down the root cause of the issue in near real time. Ability to extract data on a transaction level and pin it to specific user behaviours (through EUE) allows fo a complete picture of what the user has been doing with the application when errors occured.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although thick client is useful in a number of scenarios, it would be great to have the same features through a web interface, which is on the roadmap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to reduce problem resolution time and provide performance based insights for the business users. We were able to provide near-real time dashboards to our business stakeholders to use to understand user behaviour in the applications.
