Excellent Product

What do you like best about the product?
It gives you an overall insight to all databases with alerts and a real understanding what's happening. If you are constantly battling clueless issues or lack of alerts and information then this is a real game changer.
What do you dislike about the product?
Load capacity is sometimes slow even though hardware requirements are met. (not a huge issues though)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A lot of time is saved every day and even maintenance time has been reduced. Alert options and customisation really helps narrow down what problems you want to me notified of etc. Down time is often minimised or even completely eradicated.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It removes a lot of stress from day to day work. Administratively its excellent to be able to find issues or errors before it causes something more serious. Additionally there is no need to be constantly checking things as the alerting and reporting helps show trends to prevent future problems.

Database Analysis at its best

  • December 31, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Various aspects of the DPA including queries that take up the most Wait Times, Deadlock conditions, compute resources consumed by the DB instance like CPU, Mem, and the best part, even Virtual infrastructure resources.

With recent additions to the NPM + DPA integration, PerfStack allows cross-module correlation helping identify issues with network or server or DB at the same time
What do you dislike about the product?
The SolarWinds DPA Reporting feature currently does not allow customization.
Standard out-of-the-box reports are not suitable for all environments.
The product should include a Report writing functionality for custom reports.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our DB instances run most of the business applications and DB Administrators are required to provide an optimal performance of the DB and hence the Business Apps. Insights into DB performances are thereby helping us resolve Biz App performance issues and ensuring that Biz Apps run at desired performance levels.

The product is very good for Database administrators as it helps to be proactive and monitors DBs.

What do you like best about the product?
The way the product works. It gives the customer a proactive approach to the state and health of their databases.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing at the moment. It's a nice product and very competitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
To help the customer analyze the current database server performance on the network. Proactive monitoring is very key and this would help everyone in charge be more attentive to likely happenings on the databases.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a very highly appreciated product. I recommend you go for it to help you properly analyze your databases. Especially for the proactive monitoring.

Hard to correlate single user impact

  • December 30, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Resource correlation with database queries. time slice
What do you dislike about the product?
VM license portion of DPA is ridiculous . We own VMAN and we need to license connectors to that same data twice so DPA can analyze its own version of the same data?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
ETL query efficency

What do you like best about the product?
I liked the ease of setup for connecting it with my NPM
What do you dislike about the product?
I had to open a few more ports than I would have liked
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Watching my SQL performance

Excellent product to give you real information about your database

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The level of granularity that can be reached with the information captured by this tool. I'm also a huge fan of the explanations that are given with each of the individual items that are displayed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it can feel clunky in the relation that the node has to the database. I feel like looking at the node should flow more easily into DPA as opposed to being so separated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a none DBA, I have been empowered to research and determine issues or recommendations to make to our database admins that carry significant weight and understanding of the tool and how it informs us of the database.

Looks good, but has a side effect?

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Installation and configuration was fast and simple, no problems on that stage
Adding SQL instances was fast and simple.
The dashboard is informative and well-designed.
What do you dislike about the product?
After I added an instance that was part of SQL Server Always-On cluster, somesing happened to the Listener, and I lost connection to all DBs in the AAG. Can it be a coincidence, maybe the cluster was already
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps finding bottlenecks in SQL performance and fix them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good and helpful product, but.... be careful with using it with SQL Server Always-on cluster

One of the best performance analyzers on the market

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The stunningly easy way to see a visual with the expensive queries bringing down system's performance. Works really well with both Oracle and SQLServer. DBAs life has become so easy due to this software
What do you dislike about the product?
Price is on the higher end, but definitely realizes the ROI in the mid-long term. This software becomes a little redundant once everyone moves to a c full cloud storage solution. Trial period for 14 days was too little to evaluate but was able to extend thru the account manager
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Definitely shorter turn around time to resolve issues as this software pin points the bottle necks right away.
There's an alerting mechanism that sets our DBA team to be more proactive
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Evaluate your long term ROI versus short term since you may not get full ROI within 1-2 years. You will however see the results immediately

DPA for non-DBAs

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Integrates well for a robust application monitoring and troubleshooting experience. When using APM and node groups we are able to utilize AppStack views, reports, and dashboards to provide end-users, admins, and execs the right view and information levels.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface is not as good as other Solarwinds modules. There is a learning curve even for regular Solarwinds users. The cost and licensing can become a concern.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Critical application monitoring and database connection statistics for real time alerting and troubleshooting.
Reporting for historical root cause analysis
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The power of this product is in its ability to scale and implement with other Solarwinds products. I highly recommend having all of your infrastructure be involved in the planning and implementation phases to get the most out of this product.

Casual SQL user

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can very easy to identify performance issues and find the most of the time find the root cause in a single pane of glass. This is really helpful for example when users are complaining of slowness issues on a business critical application and this tool can potentially provide the answer in a short of amount of time if the issue lies on at the database level. There are many positives to the product, but being able to pinpoint an issue is huge.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be nice to be able to create traces on the fly based on findings from DPA. It would also help be nice if the product were more customizable. More intuitive reporting would be nice, but I've found that Solarwinds reporting in general is sort of difficult and is not limited to just the Database Performance Analyzer module.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to find root cause for critical application issues and to keep an eye on performance to proactively attack and/or prevent potential issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think this is a great tool to monitor databases and to identify issues that could potentially affect critical business applications. Anyone who is looking for a product that provides a high level of functionality in a single pane of glass would definitely benefit from Solarwinds Database Performance Analyzer. I am sysadmin and a very casual SQL user and this product is very easy to follow and understand even though I am not proficient in database administration.
