Teradata - DataWarehouse
What do you like best about the product?
Teradata is a very good product used for handling the huge volume of data and it used in our enterprise for EDW (Enterprise data warehouse) for storing all Claims/Member pieces of information. Teradata is used
to process the data and get the data at the same time which is nothing but parallel processing. As well we can get stored more than 1000TB at the same time. This is mostly used for enterprisewide applications to get the archival and data stored at all the times.

What do you dislike about the product?
Since teradata is ued for Datawarehouses it cant be used for smaller application in size because the installation cost is more for initial level. As well this is having volatile concept of strig the intermediate data where normal SQL
developers cant write the code as such for query or data processing, This requires sort of coding langaugae to get the data retrieved.
As well parallel processing makes the system slower in level.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1. Enterprise Data ware house data storage 2. Archival of Claims/Member information about 10 years in storage level. 3. Volatile level of handling the data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
1. Datawarehouse 2. Archival Storage of Data 3. Big Data
Teradata - Great Database for Data Warehousing

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
direct mail outreach to target population.
Teradata helps me to access research data
What do you like best about the product?
Teradata helps me to store and access research data that is generated by a third party vendor. We can easily map this data back to our own customer database using a key field.
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to explain to others in the marketing and research organziations, but this is a function of any relational database, not the fault of this product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to take ownership and control of our data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Suits my needs as a technical market research user.
Highly Scalable with massive parallel processing
What do you like best about the product?
Teradata is highly scalable database with massive parallel processing capability. Teradata has shared nothing architecture providing high level data protection. Ad hoc requests are processed across multiple AMPS and well suited for datawarehousing applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
Teradata database license and hardware is expensive. Not suitable for OLTP system. Partitioned columns has to be part of Primary Index.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data warehousing solutions for big data volume.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Highly recommended for data warehousing application with big data volume.
Data "Power" house
What do you like best about the product?
> Teradata is one of the most reliable RDBMS platforms available in the market
> Teradata is a power house when it comes to hosting a large data warehouse with greater storage and faster processing power
> Importing and exporting data is super easy with the teradata utilities
> Teradata has a strong admin setup which helps keep your data safe using a sound layer of access control

What do you dislike about the product?
> Teradata can get tangled up in multiple queries running simultaneously and result in a much delayed processing
> I think the UI is still backdated and desperately needs a next gen look and feel

Recommendations to others considering the product:
> You should purchase teradata if you are looking for stability, scalability and reliability.
Easy use software!
What do you like best about the product?
Wow! There are so many things.
-> I guess I can start with MPP architecture. Yes, of course other database shave caught up to Teradata with that regard.
-> easy syntax. The syntax of Teradata is clean and pure. It is not as complicated as SQL Server or Oracle.
-> Used extensively for Datawarehousing and Business Intelligence Applications
-> Primary and Secondary Index for Data Storage and Data Retreival
-> Full table scanning is a real possibility in this table, without taking much time.
-> Fastload, Multiload capablities couples with t-pump for near real time operations.

What do you dislike about the product?
Having worked on this database for quite a few years, there is very little that I do not like about this product.
-> The fast load and multiload are currently a set of scripts. If this can be somehow made into a GUI that can enable easier load of data (like the fastload and multiload supported expressions in other ETL tools) it could be useful.
-> May be if at all there was anything to be worked on (like 1/10 chances if any changes would be made), may be the GUI (the visuals) could be made a little more appealing.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have worked on more than a couple of projects dealing with Teradata Database. The best of the implementations was as a Data Driven Decision making application.
Benefits
-> Can load multiple sources of data
-> Unlike SQL Server or Oracle, there was no need to write PL/SQL. SQL DML was sufficient to suffice the requirement.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great Product. Depends on the application to be used. If the company needs massive data to be queries and reported on then go for Teradata. If the data volume is not too high this could be a costly expense.
