How was the initial setup?

Once we get used to the product, it is easy to use.

The product has a high price in Kuwait. Sometimes, we face some issues with the pricing. The pricing module should be improved.

What other advice do I have?

A tool useful for its server maintenance and anti-malware capabilities that also provides stability

  • July 25, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My company suggests Trend Micro Deep Security to our clients for server maintenance, and the customers can move a lot of servers in their environment with lesser hiccups. Our client uses around 10,000 servers, so we suggested they use Trend Micro Deep Security, a server support-based tool. Apex One and Apex Central are designed for laptops and desktops.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution we have enabled in our organization are its anti-malware capabilities, applications, web reputation, and integrity monitoring.

What needs improvement?

Our company hasn't received any feedback or suggestions from our clients on Trend Micro Deep Security because it has been working fine. In Apex One and Apex Central, the new versions usually pose issues to their users after updating the tools. There haven't been any critical issues with the solution in the last few months.

A minor issue in Trend Micro Deep Security is that once the tool is upgraded, it shows some machines as offline or not reported while showing a recent update as outdated. The tool has some server connection issues. We have raised the concerns from our end with Trend Micro Deep Security to resolve them.

The real-time server is stopped, and it shows offline whenever we check our console.

I would like to see the tool add EDR features in the future.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Deep Security for the last five years. I am using Trend Micro Deep Security Version 20. My organization functions as partner support for Trend Micro Deep Security.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a highly stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability depends on whether Trend Micro Deep Security's dashboard shows its users with options like critical, medium, or low.

It is a good scalable tool, especially Trend Micro Deep Security Version 20, compared to its previous versions like Trend Micro Deep Security Version 10 or 12.

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Around 1,15,000 users are there for the solution. Mostly, my clients are large to medium-sized businesses.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support quickly responds when you raise a ticket. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Trend Micro Deep Security Version 20 was comfortable for me.

The solution is deployed on-premises.

Our company has multiple customers. Some customers have on-boarded the tool on-premises, while others have opted for SaaS models. With the SaaS deployment model, it takes only 20 to 30 mins to complete the setup phase if the license is already activated. For new users of the tool, once the license is activated, it initially needs some build-up for the entire deployment of the tool on the SaaS model, which then takes around a week because after a server gets ready, we have to coordinate with multiple teams.

I have seven years of experience with the setup phase of the tool.

The setup phase is carried out with the help of application control, web reputation, and integrity monitoring.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Trend Micro Deep Security is high when compared to the normal prices of Apex One and Apex Central.

I rate the price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is a high price. It is a very costly tool. We have been able to resolve the challenges related to the pricing of Trend Micro Deep Security.

There are no additional payments to be made other than the normal price of the tool.

What other advice do I have?

My organization uses Trend Micro Deep Security for Windows platforms, including Windows 2012, Windows 2016, and Windows 2019, as well as Linux.

I would recommend the solution to those planning to use it.

Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Though the tool fails to detect all the viruses and bugs, it offers support for installation at an economical price

  • June 19, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Trend Micro Deep Security as a tool for its antivirus and antimalware capabilities to protect our systems.

What needs improvement?

Trend Micro Deep Security should provide better options. In the case of detection, we are not very happy with the functioning of the antivirus capabilities that Trend Micro Deep Security provides us. It doesn't have a passive way by which we can enable Microsoft Defender, considering most of the other antiviruses allow Microsoft Defender to work passively.

We are not very happy with Trend Micro Deep Security since it is not able to detect many viruses and bugs. We are looking for an alternate solution.

The tool lacks proper detection capabilities. Trend Micro Deep Security should know how to work along with Microsoft Defender in a passive mode. These two are major improvements.

On the cloud version, Trend Micro Deep Security Scanner has to improve on the signature part of analyzing the latest threat.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Deep Security for two years as a customer.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If it doesn't do its function, there's no question of security or stability since everything is lost.

Detection is the most important thing, and if it doesn't get it, then there is no point talking about stability. There is nothing called stability in an antivirus tool.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

They have different flavors, I guess. So based on the flavors, I think they give a number of assets that you can deploy onto the machines that you have. I have not used Trend Micro Apex One, so I cannot compare it with Trend Micro Deep Security.

We are an enterprise-sized business, and the solution is deployed on the main server. It's an enterprise server that we have, and it has been deployed onto that particular server.

How are customer service and support?

Trend Micro's support team provides the required information, but largely, they reach out to us with respect to their knowledge-based articles. With respect to the fundamental design and deployment of the tool, we doubt that we will be able to get access to help from the product's support team. A quick escalation to the top support personnel, which helps with support, is unavailable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before choosing Trend Micro Deep Security as a solution, I was working with the solution from a company named Quick Heal. I switched to Trend Micro because of its good marketing techniques. We thought the word in the product, which is deep security meant it was providing its users with a very deep level of security, but we later came to know it is too shallow in reality.

How was the initial setup?

Installation is not an issue. They offer good support for installation. It is the run time of the program that is very critical for us. During run time, when there is an attack, the program should be able to identify it. If the program does not have a proper system to identify the attack, it will destabilize our entire security platform.

The solution is deployed on a private cloud in our organization. We have our own cloud partner. We don't use Azure or Google.

It does not take much time to deploy the solution. All the time taken for deployment and support comes under one particular point. The primary question is if a tool can neutralize the attacks. The function of an antivirus or security product is to make sure it neutralizes its situation or at least identifies the situation. If a tool does not neutralize attacks, it's a major drawback or unsuitable for an enterprise-grade business.

You can just run a script and deploy it in NAS. The deployment process is not an issue.

One engineer is fine to deploy it if he understands the script. He can deploy it using automation on all the systems, be it 1,000 or 20,000 systems.

Trend Micro Deep Security does not require maintenance. The tool has an auto-run feature, so all updates are automatic and we do not need to maintain it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of the product is fine. Pricing doesn't matter when you are talking about a solution meant for enterprise-sized businesses since what matters is the real security and the kind of detection a product offers. At the enterprise level, we are ready to deal with the product in terms of pricing, but we should barely need to work hard on the product later on. From a pricing perspective, I would say the product is economical.

The payments are made on a yearly basis towards the licensing of the solution.

There are no extra costs involved since there will be an agent that is deployed on your server, and the agent will take care of all the activities.

What other advice do I have?

I would not recommend the solution at this point in time, especially for critical infrastructure.

Overall, I rate the solution a five out of ten.

Excellent deep security solution with low footprint

  • May 11, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Our company uses Trend Micro for anti-malware support on servers and user PCs. Its normal anti-virus, file integrity monitoring, and threat prevention modules are also active in our systems.

What is most valuable?

The overall vision and execution of the vendor are really good. The solution has a low footprint and does not have a lot of impact on the host. The reporting mechanism is also good, and at any given point in time, we can see how many endpoints are compliant. The product support is also good.

What needs improvement?

The solution should focus on the EDR part and probably have an integrated data leak prevention module as well.

In future releases, the solution should provide one agent who takes care of EDR, end-point security, DLP, and application control.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Deep Security for more than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. I would rate its stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. I would rate its scalability a ten out of ten. Currently, the solution is being used by around 4,000 users in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support team is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and only a matter of a couple of clicks. Once you have a design in place, deployment is not a challenge. In terms of time– one part goes into solution deployment and the other into solution adaptation. Solution deployment does not take much time; solution adaptation does.

What about the implementation team?

The solution was deployed by consultants. I think one professional from the system integrator or the OEM and one in-house resource are enough for this deployment.

Moreover, it is just like any other IT solution in terms of maintenance. Since it is installed on a server host, whatever general maintenance is required for that host is what’s needed—just general IT maintenance. We have an in-house team of IT and security engineers who take care of the maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Just like in any other IT solution. General IT maintenance, we have an in-house team of IT and security engineers who take care of the maintenance.

What other advice do I have?

Before deploying a solution, new users must refer to market research. For companies like ours, we select top-of-the-line products. Although this is the best product suiting our requirements, the decision should be based on individual evaluation.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
