Splunk performs a service, but is kind of clunky
What do you like best about the product?
Splunk captures a great deal of data for reporting.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting a decent report requires a lot of manipulation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have business programs that do not have reporting that integrate with Splunk.
Great Monitor Tool, Take it Slow
What do you like best about the product?
I am using Splunk now to monitor the logs from my backup server. The fact that it can import in logs from another host is great. The love the reporting for the logs as it provide an easy to use ad-hoc query which output a readable format for you to understand. You can actually go beyond logs and into monitor your network for spikes in processes and resources. What makes this unique is knowing which host and users are associated with the processes.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's very confusing at first because there's so many tools and links. It's not simple so do read up before you tackle this product. This product costs a lot of money for what it delivers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are looking for a platform to monitor our network usages from users and hosts. In addition, being able to import logs for a readable format. The application saves us time in research and allows me to focus on other tasks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is a free version, but it's limited. You can decide to invest in this product. It's very expensive so keep that in mind.

Transparency in reporting to monitor server problems

It doesn't have a UI friendly interface for the end users and it's not that intuitive

We use it to monitor problems with the hardware and troubleshoot system issues
Spunk is great tool to review log

I like the most is i can see log anytime without even touching prod environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing which i can say about Splunk. I really like splunk and i don't have any suggestion for improvement.

Reports and queries are fast ready when mangemen makes a request.

Queries need to be individually customized to specific reports.

Search and researching for enterprise errors and reports from a consolidated location
Great tools for searching, organizing and visualizing logs
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use UI and operation to organize data and visualize it. Also great to use the stored template or report to quickly checkout the reports needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes when the data size is large, the response time is slow.

We have logged tons of application & system logs to Splunk. It helps us to quick monitor some realtime issues and address the system problem to protect the business.
Great tool for logging and debugging
What do you like best about the product?
Able to place logs to help trace bugs in microservices architecture. Has a web interface for searching logs and provides lots of detail.
What do you dislike about the product?
Searching can be difficult at times because of all the options and information to wade through.

Error logging in enterprise software. Able to trace issues faster with more clarity.
Have been using splunk for 4 years
What do you like best about the product?
The best part is it is the single platform to debug any errors in the product be it application or DB or infrastructure or any other middletier third party tools

It’s not much user friendly and takes a while to get used to query the splunk

Application errors, live issues, ... it gives clear picture of any errors or slow down in application even before an end user complains

What do you like best about the product?
A simple, flat process to index the data in their native format. This allows allows the platform to be highly scale-able; It can grow with the amount of data it is needed to process. The system can run in dynamic parallel to your environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Still have to read through many documentation to find the answers and at many times I can't find it. Not highly customized, would be helpful if they can provide more customization tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Realtime logging and alerts makes Splunk our primary notification system.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A powerful tool, built lightly (doesn't require a DB) which will help in log collection, reporting and retention.
Great Data Analytics With a Bit of a Learning Curve
What do you like best about the product?
The add-ons are the best. Some of the information and feedback that the add-ons are able to compile based on all the data that gets injected into Splunk is beyond awesome and very helpful
What do you dislike about the product?
To start there is a pretty big learning curve in my opinion. The breakdowns in the left hand nav bar definitely helps. But slow to learning the search language.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to correlate errors and find out what and where they are coming from has allowed us to solve alot of issues lightning fast
