Palo Alto Networks' user-ID role-based policies are very effective in providing layered security. GlobalProtect services are easy to set up and configure and are scalable in a large enterprise.

The firewall services are highly regarded in the enterprise security world no doubt but for a non-service-based organization with a small IT team the licensing structure can sometimes be confusing.

Palo Alto Firewalls are so far better than my expectations

  • September 23, 2024
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The firewalls capabilty of handling traffic is top notch and the way you can develop custom App IDs are my favourite part and intergration of Palo Alto Firewalls with Gloabal Protect VPN is also amazing. We have 50+ firewalls in our organisation ranging from PA-220 and to PA-5000s series and we use panorama to manage these firewalls which makes the management easy. Also the URL firteling, WildLife threats and use of EDLs are also one of the great features of the firewalls. The options you have while implementing the new firewalls rules is something that is helpful where you can customize your rule however you want. It is very easy to implement the firewall rules, even a fresher in the security industry can easily grasp it.
Finally, the customer support, Palo Alto's customer support are very responsive and so far whatever engagement I had with them were always very prompt and very promising. They were able to help from technical to sales in a very excellent way.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside of using the Palo Alto Firewalls is there resolution of bugs. When you report a bug it takes few weeks for them to resolve that and get new patches of the software version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a university and firewalls are big part of our security infrastructure. We have custom requirements which we get on daily basis and the way the firewalls handles and helps in easing out the implementation is outstanding.

In January we bought PAN to replace the sonicwalls we had everywhere else.

What do you like best about the product?
PA’s logging is amazing! software updates are great. No longer do I need to long into another site to download updates. Security profiles per security rule is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish PA would implement a security rule filter like sonicwall. Being able to see all rules for DMZ to WAN can be helpful. Tags are fine, but I think the zone drop downs in sonicwall are a better experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The only thing that it lacks is a h\w product that would support consumer gaming machines such as xboxes, PS4s behind the firewall.

What do you dislike about the product?
Understanding the sd-wan feature is a bit of a learning curve. Commit config is a bit slower than other brands.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Some of our clients purchase palo alto firewalls and we manage the firewall for them.

What do you like best about the product?
Palo Alto’s NGFW offers an intuitive and user-friendly interface that simplifies policy management. The integration of threat intelligence and the ability to inspect encrypted traffic without performance degradation is excellent. I appreciate its wide array of features like URL filtering, application control, and its cloud-based threat analysis. It has significantly improved our network’s security posture
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing and cost structure can be a bit high, particularly for smaller organizations. Additionally, the learning curve for some advanced features may require dedicated training or consultation to fully leverage its capabilities. Occasional updates can introduce minor bugs, but these are usually quickly resolved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Palo Alto Networks NGFW is solving critical security challenges such as advanced persistent threats, encrypted traffic inspection, and lateral movement of malware within our network. Its deep visibility into applications and users helps us enforce strict security policies while reducing the risk of breaches. The automation of threat prevention and integration with cloud services also saves time and improves operational efficiency, allowing us to focus more on strategic IT initiatives
