In January we bought PAN to replace the sonicwalls we had everywhere else.

What do you like best about the product?
PA’s logging is amazing! software updates are great. No longer do I need to long into another site to download updates. Security profiles per security rule is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish PA would implement a security rule filter like sonicwall. Being able to see all rules for DMZ to WAN can be helpful. Tags are fine, but I think the zone drop downs in sonicwall are a better experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The only thing that it lacks is a h\w product that would support consumer gaming machines such as xboxes, PS4s behind the firewall.

What do you dislike about the product?
Understanding the sd-wan feature is a bit of a learning curve. Commit config is a bit slower than other brands.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

What do you like best about the product?
Palo Alto’s NGFW offers an intuitive and user-friendly interface that simplifies policy management. The integration of threat intelligence and the ability to inspect encrypted traffic without performance degradation is excellent. I appreciate its wide array of features like URL filtering, application control, and its cloud-based threat analysis. It has significantly improved our network’s security posture
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing and cost structure can be a bit high, particularly for smaller organizations. Additionally, the learning curve for some advanced features may require dedicated training or consultation to fully leverage its capabilities. Occasional updates can introduce minor bugs, but these are usually quickly resolved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Palo Alto Networks NGFW is solving critical security challenges such as advanced persistent threats, encrypted traffic inspection, and lateral movement of malware within our network. Its deep visibility into applications and users helps us enforce strict security policies while reducing the risk of breaches. The automation of threat prevention and integration with cloud services also saves time and improves operational efficiency, allowing us to focus more on strategic IT initiatives

These things cost too much vs the feature set you get

Advanced protection and good integration capabilities with good reliability

  • September 16, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Palo Alto Networks VM-Series to offer services to our customers as a managed security service provider. We provide solutions and services to our customers across the globe. For example, if I want to host a firewall in the cloud or somewhere where the physical appliance is not a possibility, we provide that image of the firewall on virtual machines.

How has it helped my organization?

It helps in offering advanced protection against malware and anti-spyware, which is based on customer feedback stating the product has very good threat prevention capabilities.

What is most valuable?

Very good reliability and feature set, such as advanced protection against malware, anti-spyware, and Wildfire. It also has good VPN capabilities and integration capabilities.

What needs improvement?

The scalability could be improved further. The virtual instances of the firewall are not as scalable as their hardware firewalls.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Palo Alto Networks VM-Series firewalls for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I find the solution to be a good, stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The virtual instances are not as scalable as the hardware firewalls.

What about the implementation team?

A separate team handles implementation. I am mostly involved in the designing aspect of the product.

What was our ROI?

It is hard to get into the ROI aspect. Generally, ROI can be determined by comparing a physical appliance-based firewall versus a virtual instance of a firewall.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing can be an issue when competing with products like Fortinet, which often offer similar functionality at a lower cost.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There are many competitors like Fortinet offering similar functionality.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Palo Alto Networks Next-Gen Firewall: My Experience

  • September 09, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall for its strong security features and ease of use. The most helpful aspect is its ability to quickly identify and block threats, which keeps our network secure. However, the initial setup can be a bit complex and time-consuming, which can be frustrating.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing I dislike about the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall is that it can be quite resource-intensive, which might affect performance on older hardware. Additionally, while it offers a lot of advanced features, it can be pricey for smaller organizations or those with limited budgets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall addresses several key problems. It effectively prevents advanced threats and attacks by identifying and blocking malicious traffic in real time, which helps protect sensitive data and maintain network integrity. Additionally, its comprehensive visibility and control features allow for better management of network traffic and user activity. This benefits me by providing a higher level of security and reducing the risk of breaches, while also simplifying network management tasks.
