Overview
TinyProxy is a light-weight HTTP/HTTPS proxy daemon for POSIX operating systems, which is very useful in small networks setting. Being a right choice when a bigger proxy would either be too resource requiring, or a security risk, TinyProxy is an ideal solution when a small network needs a HTTP/HTTPS proxy.
One of the main features of this proxy server is the buffering connection concept. It catches a high speed response from a server to its buffer, and then speeds it up to send it back to the client, but faster. This feature allows to reduce the problems with slowness of the Internet big time.
If you administer an Internet connection of a small network, and you want to allow only HTTP requests, then Tinyproxy is a perfect choice for you.
Highlights
- Tinyproxy needs very little special privileges to run, so the chance of compromising the system could be made minimal on demand.
- Tinyproxy is not demanding for system resources, due to having a small footprint. It tends to be around 2 MB with glibc, and the CPU load increases linearly with the number of simultaneous connections (depending on the speed of the connection).
- You could configure your Tinyproxy to be transparent, so it would be usable with no configuration on the client side. One can also use it as a reverse proxy front-end to the needed web-resources.
