Mendix has been SAP's main partner for low-code development since 2017, and that partnership continues to this day. When SAP customers use Mendix at scale, it tends to be for things like:
- Adding a uniform application layer and user interface across multiple SAP instances, as well as non-SAP systems, e.g. after mergers and acquisitions
- Actively removing customizations (modifications) from SAP ECC before migrating to the cloud and/or S/4HANA ("make the core clean")
- As an alternative to new customizations in SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA ("keep the core clean")
Common use cases for Mendix are the things which are typically hard to do in SAP, like:
- Mobile apps, including native mobile on iOS and Android with offline capability, for warehouses, maintenance, field service etc.
- Apps and portals for external users, like customers, suppliers and logistics service providers, where customers often prefer to use their own, company-branded design system to the standard SAP Fiori interface
- Apps to make SAP more user-friendly and efficient for their own employees, e.g. front-line sales people and store personnel. These apps can be with or without SAP Fiori styling. Sometimes, they want to combine the functionality of multiple, task-centric Fiori apps into a single, process-centric Mendix app.
- Workflow-centric apps that need more functionality and/or the user interface of a proper app, instead of an out-of-the-box workflow tool. This is where the embedded workflow capability of Mendix comes in handy.
Mendix often co-exists with SAP's own development technologies, such as SAP Build, Fiori, CAP and RAP etc, but it has three important benefits as a separate application, experience and innovation layer on top of SAP:
- It's an all-in-one platform, covering all use cases and DevOps activities in a single platform instead of a collection of tools with varying levels of integration
- It's all low-code, rather than a mix of low-code tools with high-code tools, which will still be needed for many use cases
- It's ideal for SAP and non-SAP alike, without (the perception of) being opinionated towards one at the expense of the other. This makes Mendix a good, "neutral" option when you need to integrate SAP with other megavendors, like Salesforce, Microsoft and ServiceNow, and each has its own camp that wants to use its own, vendor-specific low-code tooling.
Mendix has the following SAP integration features:
- Deploy apps directly to SAP BTP (it's the only low-code platform that can do this, aside from SAP Build)
- Build apps directly on SAP HANA database
- Build apps with or without SAP Fiori styling, including the latest version, SAP Horizon
- Integrate with any SAP application using OData and BAPI connectors
- See what's possible and jumpstart certain use cases with pre-built app templates
- Complete SaaS solutions for SAP customers, like Mobile SAP Supply Chain and DLM for Fashion and Retail

MENDIX PRICING & PRIVATE OFFERS Mendix pricing is designed to be simple, fair, transparent and predictable. The main pricing metric is the number of end users in production apps. There are different user types for internal and external users and users can be licensed on a "single app" or "unlimited apps" basis. The more apps you build, the more value you get, with no hidden surprises. This listing shows a sample pricing for unlimited apps, but it's not intended for public offers. Experience with Mendix Platform
The best part what I like about Mendix is TAT(Turn around time) of the project. With help of Mendix, we can easily deliver an application in a span of 3 weeks from scratch right from development to deployment which usually takes months in case of traditional coding.
Mendix has a powerful offering as PaaS model where one has to be bothered for application and its data management and rather it is maintained by Mendix which helps in achieving less TAT (Turn around time) of the project.
A robust platform for visual development
Swiss army knife that beats high-coding in a ton of situations
Mendix should not be confused with no-code or limited low-code platforms. You may build a custom application from the ground up. It will allow you to cut corners and reach your ROI much faster. If the platform can't provide a solution out of the box, know that the tech stack is Java, SQL, and JavaScript, so extending the server-side logic with Java or the client-side logic with JavaScript is still possible. As enterprise apps and even small business apps never work alone, integrations are effortless to achieve. By default, REST, OData, SOAP and DB connections are supported out of the box.
As I use the platform daily and I have done so for 14 years, I know it inside and out. I have even had short projects supplying Mendix R&D with my skill set. And have been appointed MVP since June this year. This is a fantastic program to support ecosystem developers with direct lines to Mendix R&D to achieve a quick feedback loop and an even better platform.
Even if you are not ready to buy Mendix yet it is super easy to get started, after you have build your first app, perhaps based on an Excel you have been struggling with you may deploy it to a sandbox and share the results with the rest of the world.
Mendix is a full platform not just a coding language, allowing me to build, deploy, test, maintain and manage the whole software lifecycle.
