To support Singapore’s national vaccination program, the Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS) needed the capability to scale its systems to sustain significantly higher loads at very short notice. In addition, its teams needed to be able to develop and implement new features at speed to address evolving vaccination policies and changing, on-the-ground requirements. The agency turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The UC Davis Health Cloud Innovation Center (CIC) will focus on digital health equity and will use Amazon’s Working Backwards principles and methodologies to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities. The CIC will allow clinicians or clinical care providers, patients, and developers to exchange ideas, as well as prototype and validate open-source solutions focused on making digital health more equitable and accessible worldwide. Among the 13 AWS CICs globally, this will be the first CIC based at an academic medical center.

NHS Digital launched NHS login, a serverless identity platform to facilitate access to a range of health and care apps for residents in England, with AWS, amongst other suppliers. Using the AWS Cloud, NHS Digital achieves scale, high availability, and security for citizens accessing these services, and helps users access NHS services quicker and more simply. NHS login is one of a number of services NHS Digital are hosting on the cloud as part of the UK government’s ‘Cloud First’ policy.

Across Canada, hospitals, care providers, academic health sciences centers, and more are using accessible, scalable technology to support their staff and provide faster, better access to citizens in need of care. With Amazon Alexa, patients only need their voice to answer a few questions and get started towards healing.

During the opening keynote of the AWS Summit Washington, DC, Max Peterson, vice president of worldwide public sector at Amazon Web Services (AWS), welcomed customers, partners, sponsors, and guests to the two-day event. Peterson highlighted the success of AWS customers from the past 18 months, and announced exciting new initiatives from AWS. For more than 150 years, Children’s National Hospital has worked to bring health and well-being to children around the world. Today, it is among the nation’s top 10 children’s hospitals and is transforming pediatric medicine for all children. Recently, the hospital opened the Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus (CNRIC). Amazon Web Services (AWS) is pleased to help launch this one-of-a-kind hub for pediatric medical discovery, innovation, and care.

I shared many exciting stories from our AWS Public Sector Partners as well as some of the great programs we’ve rolled out to help accelerate missions, migrations, and modernization. We are excited to announce the selection of the 10 finalists and participants for the first ever AWS Healthcare Accelerator. These ten companies were selected from 427 applications from 31 countries around the world by a panel from AWS and KidsX. The first ever AWS Healthcare Accelerator cohort represents a diverse group of healthcare solutions backed by diverse leadership, with 90 percent of the cohort having diversity of leadership and 70 percent being female founded. These 10 finalists are working to solve many of the strategic imperatives of AWS healthcare customers.

AWS is announcing a new global program to support organizations working to enhance health outcomes for underserved or underrepresented communities. We are providing AWS credits and technical expertise, committing $40 million over three years to help organizations develop solutions to improve health outcomes.

How do you predict and prepare for your citizens’ health and wellness needs during the COVID-19 pandemic? Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) quickly scaled a platform on AWS to support the 1.8 million people in their region with Nexus Intelligence, an interactive health intelligence application with a suite of predictive models against various measures of need and health outcomes. Nexus Intelligence not only supported the ICS response to the pandemic, but is expected to help reconfigure and re-invest in services to improve the health and well-being of the population and reduce health inequalities.
