In October 2024, at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Day Malaysia, the region’s AWS Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance was launched. In collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the Tech Alliance aims to modernize tech programs of study at Malaysian higher education institutions, connect learners to in-demand tech jobs, and support the development of a highly-skilled tech workforce.

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance in France brings together education institutions, community organizations, and employers, with all participating organizations playing a critical role. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies is changing how we work and what skills workers need to be able to thrive. To help meet this challenge in Australia, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has deepened its strategic collaboration with the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Education (DoE), which prioritises both educator and student upskilling. Leaders in education and state and local government know that technology is changing at a rapid pace. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies present more opportunities for institutions and agencies to make data-driven decisions, accelerate research, create personalized and convenient student and citizen services, automate processes, and more. But how can you turn these opportunities into reality? That’s the central theme of this year’s AWS IMAGINE conference for education, state, and local leaders presented by Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The higher education we knew before the pandemic will not be the one that emerges post-pandemic. Leaders must meet this moment by redefining the constructs of higher education. The “Top 10 IT Issues, 2022: The Higher Education We Deserve” report released by EDUCAUSE groups the top 10 priorities into three imperatives: 1) shared vision, shared strategy; 2) student success as institutional success; and 3) sustainable business models.

The Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region is riding a wave of innovation, which relies heavily on a digital workforce equipped to meet the rising demand for cloud computing. Today, AWS announced that we have trained more than two million people across APJ with cloud skills in the past decade. To accelerate this, we launched AWS Skill Builder, a digital learning experience available in more than 200 countries and territories, which will provide free skills training to millions of people around the world, in addition to other training programs.

Earlier this year, Amazon pledged to hire 100,000 veterans and military spouses by 2024. This is an increase of our previous commitment to hire 25,000 veterans and military spouses by 2021—a goal we’ve already surpassed, with about 40,000 currently working for Amazon. At AWS, we are committed to developing and hiring veterans and their spouses into roles focused on STEM. Check out the multiple programs, trainings, and resources available for veterans and spouses.

In Indonesia, educational institutions like EdTechs and universities are using the cloud to transform education. By migrating to AWS, these organizations are able to deliver learning resources to millions of users, innovate at scale, and take advantage of the no-cost AWS education programs like AWS Educate and AWS Activate to enhance their curriculums.
