Know Before You Go – AWS re:Invent 2022 Centralized Operations Management

Whatever stage you are at in your process of moving to or operating in the cloud, AWS offers centralized operations management services that you can use to manage and operate your applications on AWS, on-premises, in hybrid environments, or at the edge. Operate your applications from a central location with automation, integrations, built-in best practices, and hybrid capabilities. If you are looking to enhance your IT Service Management (ITSM) tools to improve efficiency and consistency, you can use AWS to automate your current integrations and investments while using an all-in-one-tool for operations.

This year, the AWS Cloud Operations team has put together an extensive offering of centralized operations management sessions at re:Invent. These sessions will cover best practices for automating your operational workflows, automating incident response, and customer stories about how centralized operations management helped accelerate their journey to the cloud. Be sure to check out the sessions below to learn more about how you can get started to accelerate your cloud journey!

Sessions to Attend

COP320 | How to be an operational hero: Complete operations management on AWS
Nov 28, 11:30 am, MGM Grand 101
AWS offers products that can assist you in managing all your operations, from day-to-day operational tasks to when the incident alarms just won’t stop. In this chalk talk, learn about various AWS services and how they can work together to significantly reduce your mean time to resolution. The talk includes whiteboarded solutions that could work for you in your environments, based on your questions.

COP310 | Automate operations management on AWS – Workshop
Nov 28, 1 :00 pm, Mandalay Bay (MND) Ballroom L
Balancing agility, maximizing uptime, supporting compliance, and driving organizational efficiency can be complex. Add on-premises and other cloud resources, and that complexity can be multiplied. In this workshop, walk through building automation workflows using AWS Systems Manager to help reduce the complexity of managing and operating large numbers of applications and resources in cloud and hybrid environments through the automation of ITSM operations processes, data collection, and reporting. You must bring your laptop to participate.

COP319 | Automating patch management and compliance using AWS – Chalk talk
Nov 29, 11:45 am, MGM Grand 304
In this chalk talk, learn how you can use AWS to automate one of the most common operational challenges that emerges on the journey to the cloud: patch management and compliance. AWS gives you visibility and control of your infrastructure using AWS Systems Manager. Learn how to set up and configure an automated, multi-account, and multi-Region patching operation for AWS, hybrid, and on-premises instances.

COP332 | Learn how to monitor and operate your AWS environments with AWS Chatbot – Builders’ session
Nov 29, 4:15 pm, Wynn (WYN) Latour 7
AWS Chatbot allows organizations using AWS to monitor, diagnose, and remediate issues through chat collaboration channels. Join this builders’ session for a hands-on experience applying observability best practices for ChatOps. The session includes an opportunity to configure AWS Chatbot to receive built-in notifications on various AWS service events and custom notifications for your AWS applications. You can also able run CLI commands to understand AWS environment health and perform tasks to configure resources. Make sure that you have an active AWS account before the session. You must bring your laptop to participate.

COP305 | Best practices for organizing and operating on AWS – Breakout session
Nov 30, 11:30 am, The Venetian (VEN) Lido 3106
Managing and operating cloud environments from multiple business units can be challenging. In this session, hear from Bianca Lankford, Senior Director/Global Head of Cloud Engineering & Governance from Warner Brothers Discovery, how they organized their cloud environment to allow teams to develop with agility while being able to manage and operate their applications in a secure, automated, reliable, and cost-effective way. See how you can use AWS Organizations and AWS Systems Manager to operate your applications at scale, manage mergers and acquisitions, and develop governance as a product for your environment.

COP331 | Automate incident response with AWS Systems Manager Incident Manager – Builders’ session
Nov 30, 3:15 pm, Wynn (WYN) Latour 7
Incident response is a crucial security capability for organizations to develop and a core element in the AWS CAF. Even with extremely mature preventive and detective controls, your organization should still put processes in place to respond to and mitigate the potential impact of security incidents. This builders’ session shows how to automate and resolve security events in a centralized hub on AWS using AWS Systems Manager Incident Manager runbook automation. You must bring your laptop to participate.

COP321 | Best practices for operating in hybrid environments – Chalk talk
Nov 30, 3:15 pm, Wynn (WYN) Montrachet 1
In this chalk talk, discover best practices for operating in the cloud, on premises, at the edge, or in hybrid environments. Learn how you can use one set of AWS services to manage all of your environments. The talk covers common use cases like monitoring, inventory, software distribution, remote session access, and more. Bring your questions!

COP213 | Migrate and operate like an expert – Chalk talk
Nov 30, 4:45 pm, Caesars Forum (CSR) 115
Migrations can be hard to navigate. Operating multiple environments, along with embedded tools and processes, often results in increased cost, complexity, and risk for IT operations and compliance throughout the migration process. In this chalk talk, learn about best practices that can help you migrate faster, realize operational efficiencies, and set up your foundation for governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) of all of your environments, both during and after migration.

COP209 | Automate everything: Options and best practices – Breakout session
Dec 1, 11:00 am, Mandalay Bay (MND) South Seas C
Change is a constant. As many AWS customers have experienced in the last few years with the global pandemic and Great Resignation, organizations that are most able to adapt have survived, and for some, even thrived. Moving to the cloud has been a key enabler for adapting to unexpected change. In this session, learn how AWS Cloud operations services enable automation from account creation to application and resource operations. Discover the benefits of investing in security, identity, operations, management, and networking with AWS services.

COP204 | Proactive governance and compliance for AWS workloads – Breakout session
