US federal financial agencies have a massive opportunity to adopt the latest assistive technologies, including generative artificial intelligence (AI), for their workforce and reimagine the art of the possible. Seeing as financial data is a matter of national security in today’s climate, I’m curious, like many of you, about the opportunities technology provides for federal financial agencies to fulfill their missions – from fighting financial crime to increasing internal efficiencies – so they can focus on the work that matters most.

Olivia Peterson, director of federal financial sales at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Worldwide Public Sector (WWPS), is a kind and thoughtful trailblazer who has built a career embedded in customer obsession, while creating safe spaces for her team to thrive. As a former customer of AWS, mother, champion of women and girls, and finance engineer, if there is anyone who knows how to authentically dive deep, listen, and provide tangible solutions to diverse customer problems, it’s Olivia.

I’m Sarah Storelli, senior global marketing leader for WWPS at AWS, and I’m on a quest to discover the people behind innovations across industries. In the vodcast series AWS Behind the Cloud, I connect with pioneers serving the public sector globally to learn more about how their stories shape and define the way they build and support cutting-edge technologies that help make the world a better place.

In the ninth episode of AWS Behind the Cloud, I sat down with Olivia to uncover:

  • What generative AI opportunities exist for US federal financial agencies
  • How AWS helps federal financial agencies fulfill their mission
  • Who has inspired her the most along her journey
  • The importance of attracting more women to the tech space, nurturing them, and the key role she is playing
  • What her favorite Amazon Leadership Principle is, and why
  • What she wants to be known for to future generations

Curious to learn more about Olivia’s journey and hear her insights about how generative AI presents various opportunities for US federal financial agencies? Watch the latest episode of AWS Behind the Cloud or check it out on AWS LinkedIn.
