After Rockdale County, Georgia was the victim of two cyber attacks, the jurisdiction turned to the cloud to strengthen the county’s security position. They worked with AWS Partner Tyler Technologies, Inc. to help with their migration, which not only enhanced data security and continuity of operations, but also reduced network downtime by 99 percent, while streamlining budgeting and reducing the IT staff’s burden.

Freight transportation companies and logistics service providers are being challenged by spikes in e-commerce volume. The need for real-time, dynamic re-adjustment of global supply chains has shortened planning cycles from weeks to hours, and requires faster IT workloads, quicker access to data, increased ability to innovate, and more. Amazon Web Services (AWS) and cloud technologies can help by bringing cost-effectiveness, scalability, elasticity, and agility to freight and people transportation systems.

Higher education institutions that hadn’t previously considered the cloud prior to the pandemic are now investigating how to begin their cloud journey. In this blog post, we highlight some strategies and first projects to help higher education institutions get started with the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud simply and efficiently. 

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), the US has a shortage of 6.8 million rental homes for low-income renters. Many communities have implemented rent registration and assistance programs to preserve affordability and prevent displacement. Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers and partners are leveraging the cloud to monitor the availability of rental units in real time to support their work.

The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) uses email as their main communication method, with over 800 email accounts using up to 50GB of storage space each. IHVN used AWS to migrate their email to Amazon WorkMail to reduce the cost of each mailbox by 64 percent, allowing their IT team to easily manage the corporate email infrastructure and get enterprise grade security.

Now available for organizations and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partners interested in expanding into the public sector: the APN Navigate Program. The APN Navigate Program expanded to offer dedicated tracks to help new and existing AWS Partners build a successful public sector practice. Called Public Sector Foundations, these tracks are open to all registered AWS Partners with the goal of helping them do business in the public sector and define their specialty to accelerate their route to market with AWS.

AWS announced the launch of AWS Public Sector Startup Ramp in India, a new program to help early stage public sector focused technology startups build solutions on AWS. AWS Startup Ramp is an acceleration program for startups that are building innovative solutions for public sector customers worldwide, including but not limited to customers in national and local government, space and defense, and healthcare.

A constituent engagement system helps governments communicate, listen, and respond to informational, service, and transactional requests from their communities. Governments across the US are embracing the cloud to optimize constituent engagement systems and improve the experience, reduce and eliminate friction for both enterprise employees and their customers, and manage first contact burdens on staffed, centralized intake points to liberate resources for higher priority initiatives.

According to a recent study conducted by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), less than half of all US students are back in the classroom full time a full year after the start of the pandemic. As schools look to safely bring students back onsite the fall, with cloud technology, schools can manage their large populations through robust reporting of test results with meaningful statistics around clusters of students who live, learn and play together while meeting state reporting guidelines for point of care testing.
