AWS for Games Blog
Welcome to Issue 1 of Game Tech Loadout!
By David Holladay, Head of AWS Game Tech Marketing
We are excited to announce the premier issue of our new digital magazine called Game Tech Loadout – or, as we like to call it, GT Loadout! We created GT Loadout as a thought leadership publication to talk about challenges and solutions that game developers, studio heads, designers, and architects face when building games. Our goal is to explore this together, with you sharing your stories and learnings as you make the next innovative gaming experience.
My team has the incredible opportunity to work with over 90 percent of game studios around the world, which means we get to hear all kinds of crazy ideas and creative solutions. It is these builder stories we want to share in the pages of GT Loadout. What a year 2021 has been! No one could have predicted just how much a worldwide pandemic would change the gaming landscape. As people stayed inside to quarantine, we played more games than ever before, and spent more money in the games already being played. Game studios continued with rapid growth and were forced to adapt during unprecedented circumstances – with a few bumps in the road.
In this first issue, we explore how game studios rose to the challenges of this new world and reimagined not only the tools and processes of development, but also the way they manage the human impact. Up first in Issue 1 is Game Tech’s very own Eric Morales talking about powering game development in 2021 and beyond.
Next, we dive deep into technical goodness in a section jam-packed with 10 customer architectures from the past year. These architectures give an “under-the-hood” look at what it takes to run massively scalable, popular games from studios like Ubisoft, Sony, Epic Games, and others.
Then we have an interview with Denis Dyack, founder of Apocalypse Studios, discussing his studio’s complete transformation through distributed teams and remote development pipelines.
Finally, we’ll finish up this edition with resources to help you get started with AWS Game Tech.
We hope you enjoy this issue, and we’re looking forward to the ongoing discussion!
