Why Amazon EC2 T2 Instances?

T2 instances are a low-cost, general purpose instance type that provides a baseline level of CPU performance with the ability to burst above the baseline when needed. With On-Demand Instance prices starting at $0.0058 per hour, T2 instances are one of the lowest-cost Amazon EC2 instance options and are ideal for a variety of general-purpose applications like micro-services, low-latency interactive applications, small and medium databases, virtual desktops, development, build and stage environments, code repositories, and product prototypes.

Why pay more? Try Amazon EC2 T3 Instances

  • Pricing starts at just $0.0052 per hour

Features

T2 instances are Amazon EC2 instance types designed to dramatically reduce costs for applications that benefit from the ability to burst to full core performance whenever required. T2 instances are available to use in the AWS Free Tier, which includes 750 hours of Linux and Windows t2.micro instances each month for one year for new AWS customers.

T2 instances are Burstable Performance Instances that provide a baseline level of CPU performance with the ability to burst above the baseline. The baseline performance and ability to burst are governed by CPU Credits. T2 instances accumulate CPU Credits when they are idle, and consume CPU Credits when they are active.

T2 Unlimited instances can sustain high CPU performance for as long as a workload needs it. For most general-purpose workloads, T2 Unlimited instances will provide ample performance without any additional charges. If the instance needs to run at higher CPU utilization for a prolonged period, it can also do so at a flat additional rate of 5 cents per vCPU-hour.

T2 instances work well with Amazon EBS General Purpose (SSD) volumes for instance block storage. General Purpose (SSD) volumes are the default EBS volume type for Amazon EC2 instances and provide the ability to burst to 3,000 IOPS per volume, independent of volume size, to meet the performance needs of most applications and also deliver a consistent baseline of 3 IOPS/GB.
