We are pleased to announce that Elastic Load Balancing now supports percentile metrics, providing customers with improved visibility into the performance of their applications.

Load balancer metrics already support statistics such as average, minimum or maximum, which are useful for many metrics. Percentiles are particularly useful when applied to metrics that exhibit large variances, such as load balancer latency. Here, they help customers understand the distribution of a metric, and can be critical to understand outliers or unusual metric behaviors.

With the integration of CloudWatch percentiles, customers can now visualize and alarm on p90, p95, p99, p99.9 or any other percentile for the TargetResponseTime and Latency load balancer metrics.

Percentile metrics are available today for all new Application Load Balancers and can be accessed from the CloudWatch console, SDK and API. Support for existing Application Load Balancers and all Classic Load Balancers will be available in the coming weeks.
